I'm 45, 202 lbs & have a number of health problems (celiacs, insulin resistance, thyroiditis). My family history is not good and I know that I have to change my lifestyle to reduce my risk of serious disease.
I used to take really good care of my health and then children came along, life got busy, and I sort of lost myself there for a few years. I can't believe that I have let myself get this big, and stopped caring about the way I look.
I do know what diet I need to follow and it does work for me, low carb, protein at each meal. I have a terrible sensitivity to simple carbs, once I eat them it sets of dreadful cravings / binges.
For the last two weeks I have been having protein shakes twice a day for 3 days of the week and the once a day for 4 days. My meals have been grilled chicken or steak with green vegetable and one peice of fruit a day. I felt much better on this, and lost 4.5 inches off my stomach, and 3lbs. two days ago I had some potato chips and I have been craving and eating carbs since.
I think joining a forum will help me stick at it when the going gets tough. My plan is to measure, photograph and weigh myself today, shop for food and start again with the shakes tomorrow. I have ordered the six week body makeover and will start that when it arrives.
I really hope to meet some other people here and I am determined to stick around for good!
