No one responded to my last intro post  so i figured I would try again.

I am currently 208 pounds (94 kg) and would like to get down to 132 pounds (60 kg) but would be happy with 143 (65). I have been overweight pretty much my entire life (bar when I was about 7 and was quite sick for a few months).

I am quite healthy and my entire family is overweight but have no health conditions.

In the past 2 years I was quite good with going to the gym (about 4 times a week) and drinking lots of water and I got down to about 82kg (180 pounds). Unfortunately though I went away for 4 months over christmas and put on some weight and have been putting more on since I have been back.

This will be my first real weight loss mission and I am already finding it difficult. i generally don't mind eating healthy food but I usually just eat too much! Does anyone have any tips for cutting down portion sizes?

My plan was to have a few goals every week (like go to the gym 3 times, drink 2L of water every day etc) and keep trying to reach them but i'm not sure if this is going to work?

Sorry for the long post. Just here to say hi and looking for motivation.

Welcome! :)

I have to admit that portion size has always been a big problem for me. When you're first starting out, eating more frequently helps to keep your appetite in check. Plan healthy and low calorie snacks every couple of hours and that might help you not eat so much at a single sitting. :)

hey fellow kiwi...

I've just joined the forum too. Lots of interesting stuff here, eh!

I keep having to convert kgs to lbs and then back again in my head.

Good luck with the journey... hopefully it'll warm up outside soon for some outside exercise.

Hee hee. I keep having to do this too, when responding to someone outside the US. At least kg / lb is easier than stone. I still have to stop and think about converting from stones to pounds and back.

Yea its annoying having to do the conversions. I just do them on google so I don't have to think! I don't know anything about stones so I'm just going to stick to kgs and lbs.

I think in stones and pounds and have to convert every time I talk to anyone. Luckily I have got fairly used to the straight pounds thing in my time here...

Anyway caro22 - welcome to the forum. I checked your original post - and there is no real way of targeting weight loss so that it comes just from your legs. I have to say that a US size 8 does not sound too big to me (LOL I have to convert there too) so you must carry your surplus weight pretty well.

I have a big appetite and find that if I stick to the really healthy stuff I can eat quite a lot. I tend to stick to food with a low GL (glyc load - i.e. glyc index when you take average portion size into account) because they specifically give you that feeling of fulness or satisfaction on comparitively low calories. I find fruit and veg great for filling me up - and I do have quite a few fruit snacks through the day.

Thanks Omega

I guess it is not that big and most people who guess my weight are always wayy under what I actually weigh so I guess I must carry it well. I would like to tone my thighs and not sure what exercises are really best for this (lunges, squats?).

As for the portion control thing I have started brushing my teeth after dinner or eating a mint so that I am not tempted to go back for more!

You have lost soo much weight! Congrats! How did you stay motivated?
