HI all i am excited tp find this forum. I am really comitted to reaching my goals. I want to loose weight and firm up.

I am excercising again for the like the firsttime in 5 years. I am also restriciting my calories. I am going for about 1700calories a day, but I suspect that may be too much. I hope to learn more and set a better goal for myself.

Welcome to the forum. What makes you think 1700 cals is too much?

What are you doing in terms of exercise?

I am doing the leslie sansone walking tapes. I do 2 miles a day with my goal being to work upto the 4 fast miles. I also do some conditioning work on the exercise ball or work on the mat.

I read a calculator which made me wonder based on my goals if I should be around 1500 cals a day.

If you don't mind, what do you weigh?

Also, do you have any plans to include weight training?

I weigh 136 and have plans for weight tracking. I weight often. I need that to keep me straight so to speak.

thanks for you help. gotta go. boss called and off to work again.

You could actually get away with eating 1500 cals at your size. However, remember, the best bet for long term adherence is to eat as much as possible while still losing weight... obviously.

I'd stick with 1700 for a couple of weeks and track your progress... weight and measurements. If things aren't heading in the right direction, keep dropping 100 cals each week until they do. If you find that you have to go much below 1400, I'd be willing to bet something is off either with your program or food selection/tracking.

Also, I didn't understand your response? Are you planning to include weight training in your routine?

sorry yes i have some weights. Mainly hand weights like shoulder press and stuff. YOu know dumbells and stuff. I want more pilates for that sort of an effect.

see yeah 1500 is closer to what I am thinking. But thanks I will take the advice and hover close to 1700 for the rest of the week and see where I am.

Sorry my response was sorta vague. I meant for tightening and toning. I am not in a place to join a gym right now. Long story there, but not an option for at least another 6 months at a minimum.

But i have some hand weights and have heard that PIlates is good for toning.

so that is my plan for now.

Gotcha.

Well hopefully you can get access to weights soon. 2-5 lbs dumbells won't cut it for very long.

And please realize that there is NO such thing as toning. At least not in the sense that you are thinking of.

Muscles either grow or they don't.

Getting that *toned* look is primarily a function of fat loss.
