Hi, fed up of dieting alone

Hey everyone,

I'm 24 and so fed up of dieting alone with no one who understands. I buy low fat mayo and get ridiculed just for that! I'm trying to lose weight and am going to the gym regularly. I keep falling off the wagon because I always go to extremes. I either don't eat at all or I end up eating loads.

I think this is because I don't have a good perspective because people around me aren't respecting the fact that I want to eat healthily. I'm hoping that joining the forum will help me stick with it this time!

I have also read just about everything on weight loss/exercise so I hope I can advise others too.

If you're going to extremes.. then i really hope you won't be advising others.... :(

SPend some time reading the stickied threads around this forum - there's a lot of good -- accurate info to be had that will get you on your way to making a lifestyle change...

you do want to eat... and make sure you're eating enough - check the nutrition forum for the stickied threads for the link to show you an appropriate number of calories...

Much success getting to where you want to be...

Hello and welcome to the forum. You will find allot of info here. Maybe you should try eating more often just mini meals? I have heard it works for some. I try to eat all my meals and have a couple of snacks in between. But you will find the info you need to get on the right path. Good luck to you.

ttnichols is right. Eating smaller meals more often through out the day is best. It keeps your metabolism up. Also after you work out is the best time to eat since your metabolism is boosted after a work out. And who cares what everyone else say about buying low fat foods. Just think about how jealous they will be when you get in shape and hit your goal weight. You'll look great.

Don't worry, being healthy is my priority and I know how difficult it is to maintain a balanced attitude - I would never promote unhealthy behaviour. I don't want to go to extremes, it's just that's what seems to happen when I mess up the diet.

Ironically, this is most often caused by people not respecting my desire to be healthier - they make tons of unhealthy food and then get offended if I don't eat it, that sort of thing. When I say I want to cook separately, they say I'm being wierd and then criticise what I'm eating.

thanks so much everyone :)

Hi, nice to meet you :)

I keep falling off the wagon because I always go to extremes. I either don't eat at all or I end up eating loads.

I know exactly what you mean - I have a little something naughty, then say to myself "well I've ruined the diet anyway, so I may as well pig out"

So far, this time is different.

Melanie.

If you want to be successful you have to stop blaming other people. You choose what goes into your mouth. You can say "no thanks, I don't want that". If they are offended, that is their problem, not yours. Make your goals known to others around you and tell them that if you don't eat the junk they make, its not personal. And then do what you need to do and don't worry about everyone else.

:( It really isn't that simple. I realise I am primarily responsible for myself but the whole point of this thread is that no-one can suceed without support. I'm accused of being faddy, shallow and even of developing an eating disorder by people who wouldn't know a normal healthy meal if it hit them in the ass.

Plus 3 people in my family recently had heart attacks and I've been told I have to look after my heart as I am at risk because of an inherited family trait. I thought being part of an online community with people with the same goal would help.
