Hi eveyone My name is Kelly and I am 30 yrs old.

My relationship with food really started about 9 years ago after I seen a photo of myself at New year. I wasnt particulary fat possibly around 9 1/2 - 10 stone, but for me this looked lots and I felt so bad.

I was going to my husbands sisters wedding in the April so I decided I wanted a white trouser suit to look really nice, this is when I started dieting.

At first I would have breakfast, cuppa soup and a tin of fruit for lunch and then tea. I worked over the road from boots so would weigh myself now and again. As I started losing a few pounds I started getting obsessed with the weight machine and was weighing myself everyday. Everytime I ate something I would do 50 sit ups :( I then started not having breakfast, the only having a cuppa soup for lunch and tea. I was constantly tired, ill and got down to about 8 1/2 stone. I was happy though as I was skinny.

My life with food from then on was counting calories in everything, exercising and just constantley thinking of food and whats good or not.

This continued for years until 2008 when I got pregnant. I always thought it would be hard as I would not want to eat lots but after 2 miscarriages I thought "stuff it" so began eating normal and everyday foods, without worrying. I put on about 2-3 stone, which I was very upset but determined to get it bk off after baby.

Now I am not sure but I think as I had went bk to eating normal and left my motivation in the hospital I have found it very hard to lose weight. I go through spells of hardly eating during the day but then is starving at night and end up eating lots, I cut photos out of mags of fat people and skinny people to motivate me, but I am so tired looking after kids all day as I am a childminder so feel I cant diet but need to cut down portion sizes and try have 3 healthy meals per day, with snacks of fruit and veg and nuts.

I get so motivated at times and think, "yes this is time, I will do it this time" then I muck up again.

So I am going on holiday in May to Tenerife, and I dont want to look fat on the beach and in my photos so I am determined this time, I just need support and encouragement when I feel like giving up so that is the reason I joined something like this. I hope I can do it, I will feel amazing and so proud of myself if I can. xxxxxxxx

I am now about 11 and a half stone and 5 "6. I want to be at least 9 and a half stone so need to lose 2 stone in 3 months???? Tips and advice greatly appreciated xxxx

Hello and welcome to the forum!

In order to lose 2 stones in 3 months I think you'll need to do quite a lot of exercise. But it should be possible...

Good luck! :seeya:

It doesn't sound like you have a very healthy relationship with food. How do you think you'll cope if you start obsessing again and what steps have you taken to make sure you wont end up starving yourself and becoming unhealthy again. We take eating disorders very seriously on this forum and I'm reluctant to encourage to you to diet unless you feel that you are mentally in a good place for you to do so. Just make sure you stick to a healthy plan and I'm sure you'll be fine though :D

Negative post over and apologies if I'm out of line--Just want to make sure you're going to be healthy! Welcome to the forum!

Thank you for your opinion, I guess when it's just you doing your thing, you dont realize that maybe it is wrong to think like I did.

I have thought about what if I begin to become obsessed again, but I really want to have another baby or start trying this year, this is my incentive to change my habits. I want to lose a few stone so that I am at a good weight as I know I will put more on when pregnant, but dont want to put anymore on at the moment (thats too scary getting into the 12/13/14 stone cat).

I want to eat 3 healthy meals and stop worrying, I want to start going swimming and exercising at least 3 times a week and get into a new healthier way of keeping healthy but the safe way and the way it will work as dieting nvr truly works does it?

Hopefully I can get encouragement and support as I was a bit worried that if I got thin again I may change my mind about having another baby??????

Hi, kkbryant.

Hope it goes well with reaching your weight loss goals.

I lost about 2 stone in approximately 3 months. I kept a watch on my calorie intake (for me, its about 1900 to 2100 kcal per day for a weight of 152lbs). I was 183 lbs at the end of October last year.

I was walking at first for exercise and then switched to an ab glider (basically crunches) and an exercycle. My weight is mostly around my core which I've read is one of the worst places for it. Hence the ab glider.

I found eating enough tends to reduce the tendency to overeat later in the day. Perhaps your body was telling you it needed the fuel.

I watch my calorie intake on a spreadsheet, but I add the calories up the following day and I can usually tell if it was too low the previous day. Or too much, cashews are a bad combination for me - I'll eat the whole packet if I'm not careful.

One day my intake was only 1200kcal and I felt rather ill the next day (I'm a guy and 1200kcal is too low for me). Next day I was rather lethargic and skipped my workout.

Didn't do that on purpose, I was out for quite a bit of the day prior and didn't pay enough attention to eating enough. I'm more careful now.

Not eating enough can make you too tired to be active or exercise regularly. Your body needs the fuel.

To lose weight it is important to maintain a calorie deficit, but it is also important to maintain your fuel and nutritional requirements. I'm guessing you figured that out from your post.

Exercising regularly burns calories making maintaining a deficit easier and it also tends to tone and build muscle mass. This raises your metabolism as muscle burns more calories than fat. Good news is this makes weight loss and maintaining your target weight easier. You can then eat more and still maintain a healthy weight. Though being active, you'd then need the extra calories.

Losing weight decreases your metabolism making losing more weight a bit harder, but shifting your metabolism into the higher active ranges tends to counter this. (I'm referring to BMR * activity modifier here).

Its 3500kcal to the pound approximately and people tend to target an average loss of 1 to 2lbs per week (an average of about 500kcal to 1000kcal per day).

Your 3 month schedule would be tight but possible, people tend to lose quite a bit just starting off in the first couple of weeks from what I've heard.

Its important to stay healthy first though.

Swimming is a good way to lose weight, its low impact and burns calories fast and well as working out your whole body from what I've read.

calories burnt = 2.9 * weight in pounds * distance in miles

Found the formula online, it'd be approximate but a guide.

I found walking good for starting to build fitness and then moving onto more vigorous exercises.

Walking calories = 0.53 * weight in pounds * distance in miles

approximately. Good walking shoes are a must, and watch out for chaffing if covering any distance.

With running, be careful to avoid damaging your knees and other injuries if trying this.

Cycling is lower impact from what I've heard.

I hope it goes well with having another baby but try not to get obsessed with losing weight.

Maybe something of the above is useful, its stuff I've either heard or done but I'm not an expert just a beginner at this stuff.

Good luck, and stay healthy.
Engineer.

By the way, according to bmi-calculater.bmr for 5' 6", 161 lbs, female age 30 your BMR would be 1524.55 kcal per day. Theres then a modifier of between about 1.2 and 1.9 that you multiply this by to work out your calorie requirements and a bit more as well. I don't know if you're suppose to add exercise calories on top of this, but I do myself.

I think they estimate 25kcal to 30kcal per kg of body weight as a recommended calorie intake for a male (1750kcal to 2100kcal was given for me a while ago), I don't know what it is for female though.
