Hi everyone :)

Hello everyone!

So as you probably assumed, I'm Sam. I'm new to this website so I just wanted to say hi.
My reason for joining this website is to learn from people and to hopefully help teach people what I know or have learnt throughout my journey.

Ever since I was a teenager I've been struggling with my weight but more specifically my body image of myself so I've decided to finally take a stand and make myself who I want myself to be. I'm currently 5'8-5'9 and weigh about 155-160lbs (depending on the scale). My real goal isn't to necessarily meet any specific weight, but instead to finally reach a body image that I feel comfortable with. I want to blast the fat and be lean and healthy.

Some activities that I've been doing to help myself are;
- an hour of treadmill almost every night (using the lolo treadmill app and burning usually 570-600 calories)
- a 60 minute long kickbox bootcamp class (it's weekly and my first class was last week)
- a 60 minute metabolic training class (same as about, first class was on Saturday)
- tomorrow my friend and I are going to be doing a Spin class together
- I walk as often as possible and luckily everything is close enough for me to walk to where I live
- My fiancee and I are trying to make swimming a regular activity for us to do together, same with walking.
- A variety of lolo app workouts, specifically bootcamp

I think that's everything that I do. I'm trying to burn fat and make myself leaner. Can't wait to get more results! (I've been working hard since I finished school this semester and I'm slowly noticing results). Luckily NAIT has a pool so I can continue to swim once I return to school.

One last thing, since my fiancee and I aren't getting married for another 3 years (I have to finish school first) I'm really looking forward to feeling comfortable with my body and finding a dress that I fall in love with :).

So hi! I hope to connect with some of you at some point! Happy training :)

Hi Sam!

I always like it when people are able to say they aren't looking for a specific number when it comes to weight loss. Pounds gained or lost means so little unless you are in a weight class based sport. It is much more important to be happy with who you are, no matter what the scale says.

I remember well the first time I tried a spin class. I didn't go into it with high expectations because of the stigma surrounding such classes (old ladies, etc). Boy was I surprised when the group there, old ladies and all spun circles around me. It was a great workout and very motivational being surrounded by people versus working out alone.

All the best of luck!

Ty

Welcome to the forum! Something I'd suggest is to start a journal in the journal section... that way you can keep us updated on your progress as well as have others pop in and give you support and advice :)

Hi Ty :)

First of thanks for replying to my post :).

Yeah, I've noticed this time around, since I haven't been aiming for a specific number, that I've been more successful in living a healthier lifestyle. I don't get so discouraged when I do weigh myself and don't see a big change in numbers because I know that I've been working hard and my clothes are fitting me in a way I'm more comfortable with and I'm beginning to see my body in a way that I find attractive. I'll admit, I splurge sometimes and eat something I "shouldn't" but then I just work that much harder at the end of the day to burn it off. I'm not going to stop eating what I love all together, that's not a way to live and enjoy life, moderation, moderation, moderation.

Lol I dragged my fiancee to a spin class on Tuesday. I don't think he expected it to be as intense as it was and we both left dripping. I think he was a little worried about being the only guy (which he was) because we had seen someone he worked with who mocked him about it, but in the end my fiancee was happy he came because the cardio workout he got far surpassed that of his co-worker. I think it's just an unfortunate misconception of spin (like you mentioned). All the instructors I've had for it have been men though. The week before i dragged my best friend along, again it was an awesome experience for her because she's never done it before. I think they'll both come back with me again but even if they don't that's alright. It won't stop me from going.

It certainly opened my eyes. It was the same for me with yoga; I was very hesitant to get into it but i'm enjoying it more and more. I haven't taken a class (yet) but instead started with the P90X yoga. It kicked my butt. I was quickly dripping sweat and wasn't able to make it through the whole workout. I don't do yoga as often as I would like but i've noticed that as I get looser and more flexible, a lot of my former athleticism starts to come back. I notice less pains in my lower back and shoulders after a long or stressful day and it's a lot easier to get off the couch and stretch for a while than it is to get off the couch and drive to a gym or go for a run (at least in the ways i'm motivated).

If you haven't tried it yet I would suggest it as an alternative to the regular routine. Like I say I haven't been to a class, but you will definitely need some kind of leadership to follow (such as a dvd/video, P90X yoga worked great for me but there's lots out there)
