Hi there!
Just wanted to introduce myself. My name's Ann, I'm 27 years old, 5'7" and currently 76kg (167lbs, eek!). For as long as I remember I've swung between being a tiny bit overweight and 30-ish lbs overweight. I was a pretty big teenager, lost a lot of weight at university, put a load on, lost it, put some more on, lost it... etc, etc!
Now, the big 3-0 is creeping up and once and for all I want to be fit, healthy, strong and slim... for good! I know that one of my problems in the past was taking an all-or-nothing approach... I actually do love fresh, healthy tasty food and exercise but if I fell off the wagon, boy did I fall off it good!
So my routine ended up being a few months of eating well and getting myself moving, then a few months of not caring what passed my lips and sitting on my backside all day... not a good approach!
So now, here I am... ready to be fit and fabulous forever!
And finally (sorry, I didn't realise this post was gonna be so long!) A little list of things that I need to keep in mind... please feel free to add to it!
1. Getting fit/losing weight is not a sprint. There are NO quick fixes
2. Exercise is my friend (at the mo, I'm doing a jog/walk programme that'll build up to 30mins jogging non-stop, and some weights, and it feels great!)
3. There is absolutely no need to 'diet'. Eating the right food in the right amounts is something I should be doing for the rest of my life.
4. The numbers on the scale are not the be-all and end-all. If I feel good, and my clothes fit better I will NOT get depressed about maintaining or even a small gain - the body does weird things sometimes
5. Having a chocolate bar/glass of wine/burger is not the end of the world - everyone needs a treat now and again!
That's it from me for now... I look forward to posting about my progress and reading about everone else's. I think this forum's great!
Happy Saturday everyone! I'm off for a long walk now
