Hi everyone, I'm new here

Hi, my name's Tim and I've been really interested in losing weight for a while but I never could find someone to motivate me (my family tries, but we're all unhealthy so it's hard). I'm 19 years old and a freshman in college.
My weight has affected me immensely in my life. I'm sick of fat jokes, I'm sick of being scared to swim with my friends because I hate being shirtless. I'm just sick of lacking confidence. While I know losing weight won't give me confidence instantly, it's a start.
I'm 19, 6'3", and 270-280 lbs. My ultimate goal is to get down to 200, but that's probably not a feasible first goal. I think a more realistic one is maybe 30 lbs to start. Does anyone have any tips? I'd also like to bulk up if I can, I'll always be a big guy but I feel like it's better if I'm more muscular.
Please, any tips or encouragement are greatly encouraged!

Welcome to the forum, Tim! For now I would suggest starting a thread in the diary section. It's a great way to get tips and motivation from the other members here. 30 lbs is a great goal to start with! Good luck! :)

Welcome to the forum! I second what jen_renee said about starting a diary. Have you looked around the forum, yet? There is a lot of information and inspirational stories that can help get you started and motivated!

firstly welcome to the forum...i do not agree when you say, ' losing weight won't give me confidence instantly'...I really feel it will as it did for me. Losing weight, takes a lot of mental training for people like us. Once you have conquered the mind, which includes sticking to a diet plan and an exercise plan for a sustained period of time, you will automatically have got a lot of self confidence. It feels great when you know that you have conquered yourself and I dare say, you will start look askance at people who are not :) ....jokes apart; your self confidence after the first month will increase leaps and bounds. The trick is to know that you are not cheating yourself

Best of luck

Thank you so much everyone, I'm really excited to share results in this caring community. When I see them that is, just started two days ago :p
