Hi

Well here I am, I never thought that i will join a weight loss forum. However i have realised that being only 23 and weighing 115kg i am very obese and need to do something about my weight.

Due to being obese i have some health problems and i am getting married in 4 months so i have to do something about my weight.

So that is why i am here to get some advice and support...

Hi Franoise!

Nice to meet you, I just wanted to stop in and wish you the best of luck on your weight loss journey. if I can help in anyway, just let me know!

Hello, hon! Welcome to the forum! I wish you luck on your journey. I think you've done the right thing coming here, it's helped a lot of people get advice, knowledge, and encouragement to change their lives.

Welcome to the party!

Hi, congrats on the wedding. You need to keep your goals realistic as you obviously can't lose all the weight in 4 months but what you can do is lose a big enough amount to make you feel great and so that people will notice and make a lot of fuss over you about how much weight you have lost.
There is loads of information on this site about how many calories you should be eating. My advice to you is to write down every single thing that you eat as that helps not to overeat and to start walking more and generally getting more active as it helps a lot with the weight loss.
The most important thing is to not go on any crash diets as you will end up failing.
Explain to your family and friends what you want to do and ask them all to support you in it by being encouraging and not putting temptation in your way.
Good luck and I'm sure you will be a beautiful bride whatever your weight.

Welcome Franosie

Hi Franosie

I want to welcome you Franoise. I hope this forum will contribute to your weight loss success!

Hi Franosie! Welcome to the forum :) and congrats on the wedding! I agree with eyckmans, tracking what you eat, moving more, and keep the goals realistic...I got married last october, so I know the feeling of wanting to lose weight asap! Fight the urge to go on a crash diet! :) I have never been one to count calories, or track what I ate...but I kinda turned it into a game for myself lol so it made it a lot easier! Ok, so I'm rambling...gonna go now ;)

Good luck with your weight loss journey!

Hi soothe, and welcome! You create a thread by going into the sub-forum (in this case, newcomers) and hit the orange button "new thread" which is on the top left hand side just below the search button.

Do you have a specific plan as to how to go about losing weight? I personally find "watching what I eat" to not work terribly well (I'm now calorie counting, which, while I appreciate isn't a system that will work for everyone, works very well for me), but different people work in different ways. I'd recommend looking through some of the weight loss diaries for some ideas of how others are going about weight loss. Weight Loss Diary - Weight Loss Forum

Do you know what your calorific requirements are for the day? I'd recommend finding a BMR calculator (you can find them readily on internet searches) and working out your maintenance intake, and then reducing that by either 500-1000 calories or 30% to make a calorie goal. (This can incorporate exercise or you can deduct exercise- the one I use incorporates exercise into the calorie calculation) I highly recommend calorie counting, but if that doesn't work for you, I'd recommend having an awareness of how many calories are in things and how satisfying you find them. For example, I used to eat seeded bread (110 calories/ slice) and need 4 slices with toppings to keep me satisfied for lunch. I switched to rye bread (93 calories/ slice), which is much more filling and so I only need 2 slices with toppings to have a satisfying lunch. (Similarly if you're out and need food, look at the calories on the premade sandwiches- if you have 1500 calories a day, and a measly sandwich is 1000 calories- and they can be- is it really worth 2/3 of your "budget"?)

If you want to calorie count, I'd recommend a calorie calculator such as fitday (recommended a lot around here) or cron-o-meter (the one I use). Both are free.

Thanks so much. Its good to get an answer from someone so quickly. I read a bit of your journal. I was a nurse, dont work anymore, disability.
I am in the states, and still use pounds and feet and inches. until I reached my 40's my weight was always pretty stable, and if I did need to lose some it was easy. NOT now! But also not active like I used to be. I have been ill alot, one thing after another, gallbladder removed, 2 sinus surgeries, etc. The specialist for my sinus problem, says that fatigue is a major complaint of sinus problems.
Anyways, I plan to count calories, and exercise, I have a stationary bike, which is the easiest exercise for me. I plan to eat 1700 claories a day, which is something I find easier to stick to than a very low calorie diet, and to exercise on bike 1-2 hours per day. The weather is turning nicer, so hopefully I can get some walking in as well.
I get depressed easily, so thats part of my battle. But I can work thru that, and exercise helps alot. I dont sleep well, either, so I plan to use my calories from 12am to 12am the next morning. Makes it easier for me.
I rarely EVER eat out, so there I dont have to worrry, but I do like to go out or have cocktails at home, once or twice a week, so I have to take that into account.
I do eat what most would consider very healthy, lean meats, salads (no dressing), etc. Not much of a sugar fan, thankfully, one thing in my favor! My doctor did say i could use green tea supplements which do help curb my appetite.

Anyways, thanks so much for showing me exactlty how to post! I follow simple written directions so much easier!
Thanks, and success to both of us!!!!!!!

Sounds like a good plan. (as a rough guide, there are 28.35 grams (g) in an ounce, 1000g in a kilogram (kg), and 2.2 pounds in a kilogram)

Your plan sounds good to me. Will you be using a calorie tracker of some sort? (I highly recommend it, lays it all out for you) I find calorie counting good because it keeps me in control of what I'm eating, and I can plan things, including treats. (it's also good because I'm losing weight!) I'd defnitely recommend keeping a food diary (as much detail as you can manage- ideally, weighing things) either in the diary section or privately so you have an idea of what you're eating and how it affects your weight loss/ gain. (I had some surprises along the way when I realised just how calorific some things were)

I'm not such a fan of appetite suppressants- my understanding is they're not always as effective as they claim and also some of them can have long term health consequences. My strategy is to eat often (for a few reasons- one, so I don't get hungry, and two, so my blood sugar doesn't drop. When my blood sugar drops I feel terrible, even if I'm not hungry, so I've always needed to eat every couple of hours) but to make it low calorie choices (usually a piece of fruit). Different people have different requirements, of course, but that's just my take on it.

Hey Amy,
Sounds like our plan is about the same. i plan to keep my calories and exercise in a notebook. I did that before and lost weight. also with kids in house, cant always record on the computer. Also, like I said, i sleep such odd hours.
its great having someone to post with!
