Hi All

NeedsToWork

Hello to all.. I am a older woman, but young at heart, that is very glad to be back on a diet. Sometimes I think I have this split personality where one wants to eat breads, ice cream, cookies and anything with sugar and grease while the other is healthy and wants just very healthy foods, not much sugar and nothing bad. I just wish to combine the two and find the balance needed to get to my goal weight and stay there. Anyway here I am ... back at it.. eating right and exercising...

My goals

On all my other diets I tended to think of getting where I wanted to go in a few months and this time I am thinking in terms of 18 months or more. I want to lose the first 27 pounds in the first four months and then go from there. Over all I want to lose 72 pounds and stay there. That is my goal.

Try not to think about age. I will be turning 50 this month and honestly feel half that age. It is not just the youngsters that can exercise like demons and drop the weight - we can out-exercise a lot of them if we set our mind to it.

Keep up the hard work. Good luck with your project.

Long term.

Welcome first of all!

Obviously long-term goals are the ones you want to aim for, but it is hard to keep sight of that sometimes if the short-term is frustrating. I think that you are on the right track with the longer term of your goal, makes it much more realistic and easier to swallow when you look at it. :)

I'm sure you will find plenty of support here and motivation in spades. Good luck on your journey.

Wow thanks guys

Wow thanks guys. Omega you are amazing. What an inspiration you are. I want to follow your lead. It is so nice to have support I need it bad at time.

Very nice to meet you both

Hi Jeanne

Thanks for the compliment.

I dont know whether you are interested - but I am running the Summer Shake Up challenge. It has been going for a couple of weeks - but people can join at any time.

Feel free to check out the chat thread - and post in there if you feel like joining in. It is all just for fun (and hard work of course) so it really wouldnt matter that you would be behind on the points... It is not like there are prizes or anything...

I tend to hang out there more than anywhere (so that is where I am most likely to support people). Sometimes there are just not enough hours in the day - and I abandoned my diary and going round visiting those of my friends quite some time ago....

Either way - I wish you every success.

Best wishes
Margaret

Jeanne,
I also just turned 50 a couple of days ago. Since Feb. of this year, I have lost 37 pounds. My starting weight was 156 and I now weigh 119...which is much better for someone of my short stature of 5'2"!

Like Omega says, we are living proof that a person does not need to be young to lose the weight. I do feel like I had to work twice as hard as someone much younger, and it definitely took both eating well and exercise to do the trick.

I spent several years telling myself that due to my age, hormones, and slower metabolism...that I could not lose any weight. Once I REALLY focused and started trying, the weight started coming off...which motivated me to keep going! I am now enjoying shopping for clothes with my daughters, who are both in their twenties.

I guess what I am saying is...it is never to late to accomplish those goals. Good luck and keep posting...I am always checking in and can give a pep talk in a minute's notice anytime you need it!

Hi Dilynnlew,

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. I will always need them. Wow 37 pounds that is really great. Congrats to you. I too have been telling my self that it is to hard and too late to lose. But I hit a high mark on my weight and I was going to have to buy even bigger clothes. So I had to do something or just give it all up. I do not want to be this big. I hate being this big. I do know it is much much harder the older you get but not imposable so here I am.

So nice to meet you..

Jeanne
