Hey everybody,

I'm a 25 year old male, have been struggling with my weight my entire life. Ive lost and gained at least 250 pounds over the past 8 years. Done Atkins, Weight Watchers, Personal Trainers, Cleanse Diets, etc. I'm starting to realize i'm getting older and need to take things more seriously.

I have about 80-100 pounds to lose and lots of muscle to build. This is also the first time ive tried to lose weight since stopping smoking so it'll be even more challenging, but also more fulfilling.

My kick in the ass this time was my girlfriend of 2 years left me and it was partially due to my weight gain and inactivity. I want to lose weight and get healthy so I can be a better person and avoid these situations in the future. I look forward to helping and receiving help from this community.

Welcome to the forum.

I am sure that you have finally come to the conclusion that you actually need a permanent change of lifestyle and not a diet at all. Diets tend to have a final date when you either abandon them or get to goal. At that point you tend to revert to old eating and exercise habits and gain every pound lost.

Many of us already here have reached that conclusion - and had a lot of success by permanently changing our attitudes towards exercise and food. You do not need to follow any of the plans on the market here - since all the information that you need to lose weight is already here and costs nothing.

We have excellent sections on exercise and nutrition - both of which really help you to control your weight. Study these sections paying particular attention to the sticky threads.

Get a free account from - set up your profile information and start logging your food and exercise. It shows your calorie balance which determines whether you deserve to lose or gain weight. It also shows how your food is distributed among the various nutrients so that you can hone things in order to hit the targets for such things as protein, fibre, healthy fats that you will want from your studies of the nutrition section. There is so much more to eating healthily than calorie counting alone.

This approach will allow you to control your weight very effectively while eating food that you enjoy.

We all need a good support network in order to see a project through. We achieve that by making friends. Start a diary, see who visits and visit them back in their diaries... Visit a few diaries yourself. This is a great way of making friends. Also join challenges and clubs.

Good luck with your project.
