My name is Karen and I am an over-eater. For real, I love food, I love to eat and I detest excercising. I wasn't always heavy...ok, make that obese. I was 120 lbs when I graduated high school and the scale has been clinbing ever since. Well, except for those two times that I lost 50+ pounds only to gain it back again. My last weight loss was about 7 years ago, just before I got pregnant with my last baby (I have three boys 16, 14 and 5). Anyway, I lost my Mom to diabetes almost 3 years ago. I wanted to do whatever I could to help my Dad. After my hundreth time asking what I could do, he said "I'll tell you what you can do, go to the doctor and have yourself checked. I don't want to lose you too.". So, I did, and darn if I don't have diabetes too. My numbers are still low enough that I am diet controlled, but I remember my Mom being diagnosed right around the same age (I'm 41 now) and she didn't last long before she was put on medication and a short time later, insulin. I want to be around for a lot longer than my Mom was, so I knew that I had to change my lifestyle. Alas, knowing it, and doing something about it are two separate things. The final straw was when I was trying on some bras in Vicki's about three weeks ago and I noticed that their mirrors were seriously flawed. Damn shame for a store like that to not be able to invest in better mirrors. I went home to take a close look at my mirror at home and noticed that it had the same serious problem. That day was a changing point in my life (as Dr. Phil would say). I made an appointment with my doctor (after a year) to get myself back on track. I got a prescription for Tenuate to help curb my hunger and I joined Weight Watchers. I began the program weighing 208.2. I followed my points by the book and at second meeting I weighed in at 205.6. Of course I was hoping for about 10, but I dealt with it. The next week and I was another 5.6 lbs lighter! YEAH for me! Today? I gained 1.2. I didn't do anything differently. In fact, I have fallen into a routine of having the same thing day after day. I figured if it's working that well, why change it? Well, it is obvious that I need to change something. I'm just not sure what. After the meeting, on my way back to work I stopped and bought a scale. I haven't owned one in years. The last time I had one I became a slave to it and actually did some things that I shouldn't have done to lose weight. I don't want that to happen again, but I do think self monitoring is in order right now.

No, I do not excercise right now. I was waiting for warmer weather. Finding time was going to be difficult too as my three boys keep my very busy in the summer and I am very involved with our local Little League. But, this morning I did take a few moments to map out a course to walk on my lunch hour. I think I'll start with 1 mile and I'll start on Monday.

Well, thanks for listening to me ramble, and if anyone has any tips for me, I'm eager to hear them!
