Hi all - on the journey

Hi all - I realized I have been responding to other's posts, but had never done an intro of my own.

I am a 51 year old guy. I started my new eating lifestyle on 4 January 2009. I weighed 350 LB (I am 6'3") on that day. I have tried diets in the past, and done the yoyo thing about 40-50 LB at a time. I decided that it is (past) time that I just change my lifestyle and eat in such a way that I can sustain a healthy weight.

My wife pointed out that I don't really eat big meals...but I snack, eat sweets and drink sugared soft drinks. So, I decided those are the things I would eliminate or control. I should also mention that I need to get more exercise (I guess most of us do).

As a result, I have eliminated sugared soft drinks (bye Dr Pepper!), I eat very, very few snacks, and when I do, they are reasonable; and have been avoiding sweets. I decided to not try and drink diet drinks, as I have heard they can stimulate the appetite.

I have to admit that other than giving up the Dr Pepper (caffeine headaches for a few days, sleepiness), it has not been as tough so far as I thought. Granted, it's easy to say after 10 days. But I truly DO think that it has not been bad, and I feel that I have not really deprived myself.

After 10 days, I am down 11 pounds. I know that rate won't continue, but it is encouraging. I thank all of you in advance for the posts, advice and inspiration you will provide.

Hello fellow Texan!
Dr. Pepper, the national drink of Texas!

Typical conversation here in Texas:
Tex 1-"You want a coke?"
Tex 2- "Sure"
Tex 1- "What Kind?"
Tex 2- "Dr. Pepper"

Aint it the truth?...Good luck dude!

...or in SOME parts of the state, it's a "soda" or "soda-water", no matter what kind of soft drink.

Thanks Branwy.
