Hi, 22 year old student from Liverpool

Basically i joined a gym about 3 weeks ago and for the past 3 months since january 1st 2011 i made it a new years resolution to sort out my weight and diet. I started the diet in January and cut out all the bad stuff i dont drink alcohol, or eat chocolate, crisps, sweets, biscuits, fizzy drinks. Its just water, bran, soup and healthy choices. First month i lost quite a bit of weight and then the following two months there wasnt any major difference maybe 1 pound less so i decided to get myself to the gym and combine diet with exercise. Ive decided that for weight loss i would just start off doing cardio for a month and im now 3 weeks into doing just cardio and noticing a difference. Im looking to start weight training soon and i also added swimming to my membership and do swimming after a workout. I was going 4-5 times a week and then i was running out of energy and getting tired so ive now realised the importance of resting and now i do alternative days and noticed i perform much better. What is my goal, i suppose its mainly just to lose the belly, and because of my height and weight hopefully that should dissapear soon, once the belly is gone and my body fat is quite low im hoping the weight training will make me more toned and defined and obviously improve my strength.

Hi md49vd,

It sounds like your on a good start. Alot of people don't make 1 month. Judging by what your saying about your diet change, you sound commited. Well done. :) I will say this, make sure protein intake is maintained. Protein is crucial for necessary energy for long term exercise, and for fat burning I think.
Yes, its very important to know how to manage your energy. Remember things like adequte sleep, right nutrition(you've got that down, given that your protein and iron intake is also covered) and don't over train. A good way to keep up a good frequency is by working out muscles that havn't been worked in previous sessions.

I hope this has been useful. Keep me posted, I'd like to know your feedback. :)

ye ive been reading about the importance of protein and i eat quite a bit of chicken and have cans of tuna before i workout. I think once i start weight training which will be even more cardio and build up muscle then i will burn more calories and see even better results. I have also been reading about protein shakes but atm im not gonna use them just yet, maybe once i start weight training.

It takes momentum, but you should see results if you stick to it. You get better energy from red meat due to the iron content. I personally don't believe in protein shakes, then again i'm not exactly biffed up. Just toned.
