Hey

Hey,

I'm Kevan, a 21 yr old student.

I'm not terribly active, but looking to change that.

I'm considering signing up to a cycle for charity which will take place in August and just thought I'd see if people thought it was an achievable target to be at that level of fitness by then.

The Cycle is from Edinburgh (in Scotland) to London over 6 days. The days range between 54miles and 105 (that day is apparently mostly downhill).

I'm not really sure how fit I am, but I don't imagine very.

Just wondering if people thing I could get fit enough by then?

Cheers

Kev

Hey Keven,

Welcome to the forum. Well done for making the decision for change, everyone in this community is very supportive and you will enjoy your time here.

Remember to take it slow and enjoy getting fit.

Hi. You definately can get fit enough by August, you just need to do a lot of training. it might seem tough, but I think about 30min to an hour on a bike every day is perfect. You don't have to ride a bike, just join a gym and train there. where are you from? I know a nice website with a list of all gyms in London. It's you can find something for yourself there, but I recon every gym has bicycles.

I agree but it depends on how much cycling he is doing now? The local club here mostly train 300 kilometres a week some more. When you start your average is 20 to 25 kph. When you reach fitness your average will be 35 to 40kph.

So to start you will only be doing 25 kilometres a day in that 1 hour. That is not enough, but when you get your speed up. it will be 35 to 40 kilometres a day, which is still less than 300 kilomtres a week. So you have to throw in a few longer rides say twice a week. Each Sunday there is a once a week 135 kilometre ride, and most guys either do this OR two 70 kilometre rides a week, sya Tuesday and Saturday. That is a normal ammount for a cyclist, some do more some a bit less.

I used to do 60klms a day, 30kilometres to work and 30kilometres home each day, 6 days a week. I was not a club cyclist but I did a couple of 135kilometre rides on the occasional Sunday with the club. The 135kilometres takes 3 1/2 to 4 hours, my first attempt took 4 1/2 hours.
