I'm very excited about going to the gym but I honestly do not know where to start.. I don't know any machines or anything to do.. People use the term squat or thrust or lift this and blah blah And i don't know what they are talking about.... I really can't afford a personal trainer Just the gym for now... Maybe some supplements at my local drug store.. thats about it .. Can anyone help me? umm... Also.. right after i lose the weight i really wanna get.. Cut .. Abs.. Pecks, arms..all that good stuff.. I'll be searching the forums for How-To Eat properly.. But on the gym catagory I am lost. Also.. Any supplements that are good? My uncle says hydroxycut is good but i heard people have withdrawal symptons....

-Thanks...

This forum is definitely the place to look around, Andrew2489.

Look in the weight training section for some simple workouts. Often they'll just list the name of the exercise, but you can google it and find pictures or small videos showing you good form and everything.
Does the gym you're joining have trainers walking around who offer help? If so, ask them to watch you do some of the excercises that require better form. I'm nowhere near an expert though - spend some time in the forum getting advice from some pros.

Are you also going to watch what you eat? What you put in your mouth can be just as important as what you do when you're at the gym. The weight loss section (this part of the forum) has great tips to get started on eating right. Just do a bit of research and you'll learn quickly!

Good luck

Hi Andrew!

Please don't bother with the hydroxycut stuff, you can lose weight without any diet pills. Healthy diet and exercise is where it's at!

Start slow at the gym, maybe even just cardio for the first few weeks. Hop on the treadmill and walk for 30 minutes. Increase the time and speed a bit each week.

What is your diet like? Things to cut down on would be any added sugar (no soda, juice, sweets etc) Also, salty stuff like chips, crackers and processed foods. Cutting back on carbs will help drop weight fast so limit servings of bread, pasta, rice and cereals. When you do eat bread and pasta, make it whole wheat. Try brown rice instead of white. Try adding some new vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. Low fat protein like chicken breast, lean ground turkey & beef and don't forget fish!

Calories in vs calories out is how to lose weight. Google "BMR calculator" and find out what yours is. Then you can start to understand how many calories you burn and how many you should eat.

I'm new here but I have been reading this forum for months, so much good information here! Hope you stick around! :)

You have a BMR of 2408.15.
ok and i did the harris benedict equation i timed it by 1.2 times.. and i got 2889.78
what does this mean?
now what do i do? ( confusing! )

It means that if you eat 2889 calories per day then you will maintain your current weight. For a healthy rate of fat loss, subtract 500 cals or 20% per day from your BMR.
