Hi everyone.
I'm Jonathan, just turned 18 from England.

Ok, so my mates have just gone to Ibiza for 2 weeks, i really didn't want to go because of my weight and body.
Now, I've decided to make a change, hopefully in time for next summer!

I'm currently 244lbs at 6foot 3inches.
My aim is to get to 175lbs.

I discovered this site whilst aimlessly searching for diets, i've already been motivated by the before and after pics, hopefully i'll be posting mine in 6 months!
 
Welcome Jmac! you can always start by posting a before to get you started, and also consider starting a journal thread to track your progress. There's a lot of support here to help you on your way.

Just a little perspective, 244 is where I'm hoping to be in about a year from now! Don't let your body get in the way of things you want to do.

Welcome aboard. So you have your goal set. How do you plan on getting there? How do you plan on sustaining motivation?

H Steve, yep i have my goal set now its time to get to work!
I started the new plan yesterday, so far so good. I do cardio for 40 mins everyday and eat healthy, consuming less than 1,500 calories per day.

Hmm, motivation, i don't really know, now i'm motivated and will probably be for at least a month hopefully. If motivation disappears i'll have to cross that bridge when i get to it. Any tips?
 
Hey Jmac, welcome :) I'm actually pretty new here too, but so far, I've heard from a lot of cool, helpful people, who are all in the same boat (or have been, at one time in the other).

Your a tall guy. Are you sure you need to get all the way down to 175 ? Sounds really thin to me. Maybe you have a naturally slender frame ?

I'm only 6ft, and although I'm weighing 195 lbs right now (down 75 lbs in the last 9 months ;)) at about 18% body fat, my 3 year goal is actually to weigh 215, at 8% body fat (steep goal, I know). But then I have a big chest, and wide shoulders. Everybody is different.

Either way, you've come to the right place for great advice on diet and excersize.... the two key factors in building a fit, healthy body :)

Is your goal to reach a certain weight? Or is it to feel fit, look good naked, etc?

If it's the former... have at is.

If it's the latter... are you planning on adding any form of resistance training into the mix?

and eat healthy, consuming less than 1,500 calories per day.

How did you go about selecting intakes lower than 1500 kcals?
 
Helllo!! I feel your holiday pain! Im going to tenereife and have been suffering for 5 months in attempt to get beach ready for a holiday in 2 weeks! hehe. I really hope by next year you'll feel confident enough to get out there!

Hey, yeah it really is a pain! I'm over it now, just felt bad for the first day when i had no mates to go out with haha, But now i'm more focused on exercising.
Have you been successful then?

I suppose i would be thin if i were down 175, but then like you i want to build up muscle to get to a healthier weight.

Well done on your weight loss, that's a massive achievement! and good luck on your weight and muscle gain! :)

Yeah, its rubbish it'll totally be worth it though... I havent been out drinking for like 4 months in aid of project beach body... been missing out a lot. Sort of sucessful though! managed to lose 34 pounds since we booked in march, which is fair, but i'm still not happy unfortunately. Got two weeks of intense suffering to get down another 10 pounds or as close as possible ! Boo:(
 
Wow, that's a lot of weight, well done!
If you've been off the drink for 4 months, you're body's probs gunna get a hell of a shock when you drink on holiday (if you do), you'll be an extreme light-weight haha.
Going for a week or two?

I'm going out for a run now, hopefully the rain keeps off in Durham, doubt it though ha.
