Hello, my name is Becky, and I am in middle school. I am having a lot of trouble losing weight. if you guys have any helpful into how to lose weight let me know of your knowledge. I really feel like I stick out in my little group of friends because they are all skinny and I'm not but lets back up and say that most of them are skinny. I am 4feet 10inches and weight about 150 pounds, I tried a lot of times to lose weight but I only seceeded once and I kept it for about a year and then during the summer I gained it all back plus 20 more pounds because there was no peer pressure on me to keep it that away.
Thank you, Becky D

Hi Becky! yes, it takes a lot of commitment to lose weight, stay focused on your goal and look at it as a major change in lifestyle instead of a temporary diet. Most of all think of the health benefits of being thin.

Welcome to the forum.

It would certainly be good if you could lose weight... Not only are there health benefits - but (and I can say this as someone who was a very big lady for a very long time) there are lots of lovely fashion clothes that people of a healthy weight can wear that are not available in the bigger sizes... also - it is nice to be able to join in any activity (e.g. fast dancing) and not feel that you can't because of your size. In my experience - it can be quite easy to get from being on the big side to absolutely massive - that is what I did... no fun!

I think that it would probably be a good idea to tell your mother that you would like to lose weight.

I think that you would do well to try to be more active and eat healthier... I went out walking - which is a great form of exercise... I actually got a pedometer and found it very good for encouraging me to take more steps every day...

A good start to eating healthily would be to try to cut out the obviously fattening stuff... Nibble on fruit instead of cakes and biscuits or sweets... Try to have home cooked food as often as possible - so try not to opt for things that we all love like pizza...

Obviously - at your age you will be very dependant on your parents - but it would be good if you generally had more fruit and vegetables - and ensure that if you have fried food that very little oil was used in the frying (by using an oil spray)...

Good luck with your project.

A thing that has really helped me lose weight was taking "baby-steps." For example, the first day I'd just focus on eating a healthy breakfast (like a salad, or orange) and than eat whatever I wanted later on till the second week came around. Than I corporate a healthy lunch and still eat what I wanted for dinner. The third week, the same thing with a healthy dinner. And by the fourth week I started going to the gym.
You can't immediately start dieting, you gotta take little steps so you get used to the new routine. It's a lifestyle change, not some temporary diet-plan. But you can STILL eat the things you want, in moderation. Like pizza, if I REALLY want that slice of pizza bad enough I'd let myself have one slice. And you shouldn't deny yourself every bad food on the planet, you will fail, trust me. You just gotta make sure you eat a lot of healthy food and exercise to balance out the bad. Now, that doesn't mean you eat salad all day long and than decide to have a huge, knarly bowl of ice creme, no. That's not how it works, but you can have half-a-cup of ice creme. Just gotta count those calories. What did the doc say at your physical, or did you not get one this year? He could probably tell you exactly what to do and how many calories you should consume per day... but, that's just a suggestion.

Good luck on the weight-loss, and you should probably make a weight-loss diary so we can follow your progress. :D
