My names Richard, and I'm new on the site. I m about 5-11/6 ft and I've held around 250 pds body weight for around 3 years now. I'm looking to lose around 50 pounds total over the next year and a half. Im also training to be able to complete a half marathon in about 5 mo.

I have went from practically 0 exercise , to 30 mins weights and an hour to and hour and a half cardio every other day. When i lift i do full body workouts with about 3x8 reps. My cardio is 20-30 minutes per exercise alternating between treadmill/bike/eliptical. My food intake is around 2000ish a day.

I've done this routine for about 3 and a half weeks now and the scale just hasn't budged. Is it most likely the fact that i really dont have any muscle whatsoever as a base, or is my routine just counterproductive? Also around how much water should i have each day. Is it ok to drink sugarfree tea/flavor packets in the water?

Is it possible you are gaining about as much muscle as you lose in fat? has your waist size changed at all?

You certainly do have muscle if only in your legs (gotta be some plus side to carrying around 100Lb every day).

Aim for about 2 liters of water a day, tea is fine, flavour packets dunno.

Hey Richard,

So I sort of did the math for you (online calculator :p ) but I think what's wrong right now is that you have made your body used to the routine.

You have to add more intensity to your workout. And what I mean by that is for example if you do 20 pushups as a routine, try to do as many push ups as you can - then add 5 more to it. Don't OVER DO IT, but give your body something unexpected.

Also - once your done working out I hope you eat right after - your body is like a sponge and will absorb any type of nutrients/protein for about 15 minutes. Take advantage of that time to drink a healthy shake or juice.

Another good idea is to drop your calories by 500 or so JUST FOR 1 DAY. Then the next do 200-300 extra calories than average. This way your tricking your body and will never stick to a certain routine.

Finally - I hope your drinking plenty of water because that is the most essential.

Keep it up Richard,

DAvid
