Hi guys! I'm new, and I'm looking to get some feedback on what I've started doing and what I plan on continuing to do.
I'll get right to it: I'm male, 17 years old, 5'10", 200lbs. There was a point a couple of years ago where I got right down to it and lost some weight, but I lost my motivation once I liked how I looked and I stopped working out. I do work that requires me to be sedentary for hours at a time, so while I haven't been gaining any weight, my metabolism had been pretty much dead. I'm aiming to cut down on the fat and define my muscles, which will probably take 35-50lbs of weight loss, so I'm trying to come up with a doable workout regimen. I have big muscles for someone that doesn't work out at all, but they're not cut and they're fairly atrophied, so they don't do much. I think I have the potential to be big and cut, but I just don't try enough so I'm just chubby.
Anyway, on to what I've been working on - I'm trying to do a combination of calisthenics and cardio, switching between upper and lower body every other day. Today I started with everything, to get my muscles working and to wake them up a bit. I ran about 3/4th a mile (well, ran as much as I could - power-walked the rest), then did situps until I couldn't do those anymore, then I did another 3/4th a mile and then did push-ups until I couldn't do those anymore. I then power-walked to cool down and lower my heart rate. Now, my plan from now on is to do one of those 3/4th a mile laps, then do the calisthenic for the day, then do another 3/4th a mile lap. I plan on switching off between push-ups and sit-ups every other day, to give my muscles a chance to heal and re-build.
As for long-term, I'm thinking I'll expand how many laps I do as I build up my cardio and am able to do more without over-working, as well as do more of the calisthenics in-between as well. I'm also working on eating healthier and more regularly - my sedentary lifestyle made me able to eat only two or even one meal a day without too much fuss, but even with one workout I've had to eat three regular meals today just to keep up with my metabolism. I've never had problems making smart food decisions when I wanted to, so I don't see that as a problem. I know a lot about how calorie intake vs. loss affects weight loss, and the dangers of taking in too little calories. Overall, I'm not looking to consume myself in workouts, but more make it a normal part of my everyday life, so I can become healthy and continue to do so as I get older.
So, sorry for the long intro, but I'm curious what you guys (and gals) think about what I'm doing. Suggestions, advice, etc are all welcome. Thanks!
