Hi weight-loss fitness people.. I'd like to introduce myself and explain a little of what I'm about. I'm Mark, Currently residing in the state of Washington. I'm 27 years old standing 6'1" at a whopping 255lbs. Since end of last year I had made a last minute decision to join the Army. The only thing that had held me back of enlisting asap is my weight. During winter last year I weighed around 296lbs! I worked out for about 1 1/2 months and lost over 35lbs.. A battle I have done in the past in my late teens/ early 20's where back then i lost 45+ in that time. The only thing added between now and then are, my kids. The stress card is playing majorly in my plan at the moment and I'm trying to overcome it all until I can enlist. I've been procrastinating since after winter because I've been stressing the good and bad. I do want to be here with my kids, but on the other hand I want to have a better future for myself and them. So here I am seeking inspiration. Interact with me as you please. I been to other forums where not much were active and I want to read on success stories, read on anyones progress and keep being active in one way or another to keep away from being bored and turning to food. I have been good this year to maintain but need to shed my last 30lbs or so. I'm ready to begin another process.. Cheer me on and if anyone is interested, please keep in touch. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum.

Your BMI is 33.6 so you would be wise to lose weight. The healthy range for your height runs from 140 to 189 pounds. This range is stretched for people with a lot of muscle...

Reading through your posting - I see that you do very well when "on a diet" then finish that and sometimes gain. When I say "on a diet" I naturally include the fact that you work out then... You clearly know what to do to lose weight...

Many of us manage best if we can change mindsets so that we adopt a new healthy lifestyle rather than a diet... We might have the occasional splurge - but basically the diet is here to stay... We do not stop eating healthily after x weeks or when our weight hits a magic low number... We keep on exercising too...

If you can manage to do that you will find life so much easier...

I hope that you can overcome the stresses that are currently making life difficult...

To me - it may be that it is counter-productive to mentally link your desire to become more fit with your desire to join the army... You appear to be a little torn with your love for your children at the heart of things and wanting the best for your children on one side and the fact that joining the army would involve you being away from home on the other side...

I would try to focus on wanting to be fit so that you can be active with your kids... Indeed playing with the kids could be a good form of exercise... Use leading a healthy lifestyle and indeed encouraging your kids to develop healthy habits as your motivator.

Then you could make up your mind if you have any doubts regarding the army once your weight is at the necessary level.

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends

Good luck with your project.
