Hello guys, I'm a 16 year boy "5"7 and i weight 200lbs <--OVERWEIGHT

I've tried losing weight and having a "plan" but it never works out. I don't know what to do. I have about 6 months before the new school year starts and i want to look fresh, and start bboying with my friends. I have a problem with video games, like i'm addicted and don't know what to do. I don't know what to eat because when i visit my doctor and talk to him, he just says to eat healthy. I don't even know what healthy is. So i want to ask you guys, What can i do to drop like 60-80 lbs in 6 months. What can i eat that is healthy? (Please give examples on what to eat in the morning, evening, and dinner) And what is a good way to forget about video games?

Thanks guys for trying to me with my problem

First of all, get your butt off the couch, and go get some exercise instead of just playing video games.

Find something you actually like to do. Play some kind of sport. Just go do something, at a reasonable intensity, and regularly.

Alternatively, go to a gym and ask your trainer for a weight and cardio training regimen tailored to your goals.

Just get moving. Set your mind to it, and just do it.

As for nutrition, what are you eating and drinking now? Write everything down. You can post it here. People will tell you what you can do better and what would be healthy alternatives.

There is one more thing I want to add.

Drop the 'by 6 months' mentality. It's not about reaching X by Y. It's about reaching X. 60-80 pounds is 10+ pounds a month which is more than 2 pounds a week. Is it doable? Yes, I've lost 30 pounds in 3 months..I'm also almost twice your weight. The worst trap you can get in is saying you have to lose within a certain time. It's ok to have goals but let us make them realistic and achievable.

Try this instead. I want to lose that first 5 pounds. Then you add to that but get the process started than putting a daunting goal in your face first.

Hiya, Well I know the 'right' foods to a small degree, but have a look at this site I just found this morning LINK REMOVED they show plates of food that are generally 'good' and give you a quick picture of what is considered OK at least !
NB I have NO affiliation with this linked site whatsoever and only show it as an example of visions of food examples.

Try and 'understand' nutrition - Optimum Nutrition Bible is a good start.

Protein (meat fish eggs poultry) help to to stop hunger pangs ...
Veg provide nutritious chemicals that the body needs to function and 'work'
Carbs (potato rice pasta bread) give you energy

The way I view dieting is to eat these things in moderation.
If you 'over' eat you gain weight. If you under eat you loose weight.
Now you 'need' to understand what that balance is for you to get that loss correct.
You can loose weight without exercise but lack of muscle tone won't help you function in life so although you probably have great arm and hand muscle tone from playing games it is the rest of your body now that needs some attention.
Do you have a wii ? I understand the exercise progs are 'good' and that is a bit like a 'game' and you might feel more at home with that?
If you have a bike then try going for a very short ride like just around the block and get into the habit of a short simple start and only progress as you seem to like and are capable of. Or go for a short walk. Start simple and enjoy it - that is a must. You won't stick to what you don't like.
You might find that you like tennis for example ? Or go to the gym ?
On the other hand your motivation may help you get into an exercise routine that inspires you and it will help you burn more 'calories' / energy as well as tone up the muscles. :)
Once you start exercising it 'feels good' as it releases 'good chemicals' into your bodies system, possibly one reason why you enjoy the computer games - apart form the mental challenge and stimulation.

I have only too just fund this forum and it looks v good with lots of sensible advice. I am just 'learning' too. Hope that helps a little. :)

What i eat mainly is alot of Rice, and noodles. But most of the time i just eat whatever. I think its because i overeat alot because i have to stay home and take care of my 6 year old brother, so i'm mainly home without anything to do but video games. I drink mostly water or crystal light mixtures in the water thats about it.

Just do it honey....seriously if you want it bad enough....just do it.

You have a wealth of knowledge and experience on this board at your fingertips....read the thread.....ask advice when you need it and change your life today!

Don't keep putting it off until tomorrow...and I tell you what...if you do knuckle down and get moving and eat healthy....you will knock peoples socks off in 6 months time!

Good Luck :)

when i visit my doctor and talk to him, he just says to eat healthy. I don't even know what healthy is.

If it's a drink in a can...................have water instead.
If it's fried, don't eat it.
Don't add cheese or salt to anything.

Those 3 little rules alone will likely drop 30-40lbs of the weight you want to lose on their own.

Maybe when it's nice outside play ball with friends/brother etc. You'll be surprised how much of a difference it can all make.

Please write down everything you eat in a day (EVERYDAY) and find out how many calories are in every helping. Total them up everyday. You need to get your calories under reasonable levels. This will determine weight loss.

Healthy foods

I find that a healthy diet is one that has the following characteristics:

- has a good mix of sources of protein fat and carbohydrates

- satisfies the hunger and gives you plenty of energy.

- Has a number of different foods in each meal, so some sort of meat or protein source, a grain and lots of veggies.

I'm a big fan of sandwiches. They are easy to have a mix of food sources, they are portable, and it's easier to keep portions in check so you are less likely to over eat. After all it worked for Jared.....

ALso is there a local play ground where you live? Sometimes you can get more activity playing around with your Brother at a play ground than at a local gym (and it's free)
