Hi all. Name is Doug"ster" and this is me checking in :action11: for the first time.
I'm 47yo live in the Northwestern US and my fitness goals and interests recently revolve around climbing and mountaineering. However, towards the end of last year (2008) I completely went into a nose dive-funk-depression and promptly gained 31 lbs of fat. Hitting a low point, I quit climbing and I actually ended up in the ER with chest pains and shortness of breath - tried eating myself to death I think.
Long story short - I got back in the gym in early Feb 2009. At that time I weighed 231.5 lbs (I'm 5'10"). My ideal weight when I was climbing was about 195 lbs (12% body fat) - considered "overweight" by common standards but I have well trained large muscles when Im not trying to eat myself to death.
As of today 4-28-09 my weight is down to 218lbs with a short term goal (by late June) of 200 lbs. Ive done this so far with exercise (24 hr fitness membership) and some diet rearranging. Recently discovered "fitday" and use the nutrition tracking system there to help keep me on my goal.
I have been training with weights for much of my life and have also trained for endurance activities as well. Nutrition has become more important as I have aged and my metabolism has shifted a bit so I have delved into 'self study' in that area also. In general fitness training has been a mainstay in my adult life.
Anyway, it feels good to be training again and hopefully I can avoid the winter blues next year. Thanks for reading
