Hey Everyone

Hi guys. :action11:My name is Tyler, and I'm from Cali. I'm a total noob to this fitness forum.
I've recently applied to become a Police Officer, so Police Academy could very well be in the distant future. Which is why I'm here. I'm slowly but surely been starting my own physical training. I don't have a gym membership, and not a whole lot to work with at home. So I've been running and doing medicine ball workouts.
I'm 6'0" and 168lbs. Not fat, but not skinny. I'm currently working on my abdominal/oblique areas.
So anyone have any suggestions for those like me who don't necessarily have a home gym?
Better yet, is there anyone else who are either training for the Police Academy or are currently a Police Officer that might want to share some workout/training tips? That would be most appreciated.
Lookin' forward to getting in better shape, talking to some new people and benefiting from what this site has to offer.
Any good recipes on here?? haha. I've got to start eating healthier...

welcome! there is a thread for recipes, so you may want to check that out. there's also a lot of other beneficial information on this site, so make sure to read through the postings. my nephew just went through police academy and is now a police officer. i don't think he trained much before the academy though. i know he said the academy is a little tough, but he made it through ok. good luck with it!!

I was a police officer for 12 years, in the State of Kansas: I went through the academy at the age of 29 (Hutchinson, Kansas, Class #111), and again (after being out 5 years) at the age of 46.

The length of the academy (in weeks) can vary per state requirements. When I first graduated in 1990 it was 8 weeks. When I went the second time, it was 10 weeks. However, the training and agility requirements didn't change. However, this too (the agility requirements) can vary per state requirements and regulations. I can give you a "specific" idea what I went through for 10 weeks (and how I trained for it), but this may differ from what you may experience in your state. And, likewise, I do not want to unintentionally mislead you.

The best thing you can do, is to contact the academy and get a curriculum, and obtain their agility requirements. In addition, talk to officers at the Police Department you are working for (or planing to work for) to obtain some training and education curriculum information to assist you.

Is their a website for the Police Academy you are planning to attend? If there is, there may be some information on that site that lists the required agility, lists what is expected of you, and other information. Obtain this information, come back here and post it. Then we can provide some suggestions on how to train physically for it.

Since I had went through the police academy once, and reviewed their current requirements (which hadn't changed), I already knew how to train for it. I do have "experience" here, and I can help you a great deal.

Let us know.....

Good luck.

Best regards,

Chillen
