Hey Bianca,
I just wanted to say hi, I too have just joined the forum and I need all the encouragement I can get. I have 30kg/66lbs to lose and I don't know where to start. I take comfort from knowing that people have been where we are now and have reached their goals, we just need to work out what is going to work for us!
I am so jealous that you live in Chicago, do you live near Oprah? She is my inspiration for life.
What are you studying at College?
I so understand about the nice meal and sleeping thing, I have struggled with depression and chronic fatigue for about 10 years and my only "pleasures" in life are a nice meal or glass of wine and my bed....
anyway, I just want to wish you all the best

Haha, I work in downtown near the Oprah building but I actually work across from Obama's office. Its so cool to see the secret service!

And I am studying for Film. Editing, more like it.

BTW, thanks for the welcome. I am a little saddened that no one else replied but its okay, I am glad you did!

Yeah, I also have struggled with depression and I love lovesleep. I'm getting better with it but because I am always so busy I enjoy sleep more. Lol. I just really want to find a plan that works for me and will give me good results. Because I tend to emotionally eat especially when I am stressed OR bored. But I never know what exercises to do..or how to manage it in my schedule. its really hard but I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed to do it.

Thanks so much for your support! and I wish you the best on your goal! we must do this.

Hey Bianca, I know what you mean about not having the energy after work to do any exercise.

I've felt like that many a time. The first few days of starting exercise are always the hardest. Once your body becomes more used to the exercise you will find you will have more energy, plus as you get fitter you will naturally have bundles more energy. This will carry over into your studies as well as your exercise.

So my advice for now, is to START!

If you have a gym nearby that would be perfect, or there are plenty of ways of getting excellent exercise without a gym.

It might be worth getting yourself a heart-rate monitor. A good start would be finding a form of exercise that will get your heart rate up to 120+ for at least 20 mins a day. You can probably do this from doing a brisk walk. As you get fitter you may find that you need to break into a jog to keep your heart-rate up, and then once you get into your exercise and start seeing results (on the scale, then visibly) the rest will snowball.

If you can get yourself into a routine that you can stick to, the rest will follow.

Good Luck!

Wow you work near Oprah and Obama how inspiring. One day I am going to visit the US. All of my friends that visit love America.
I hear you about where to start!!!!!
I was hoping that someone would have advice for me on which plan to go with but no one did so I have started Sureslim today.
Sureslim is really strict but i know it works and fast so that's why i'm doing it, problem is i can't last a week. i don't know if it's lack of willpower or self sabotage..
when i get to goal i'd ideally want to switch to weight watchers to maintain as that program is more flexible but i don't know if you can switch like that.

anyway, i used to be a real sports person and this year i have been quite active except for this week.

i reckon start with a walk and if you enjoy it go for another, then another adding 15 mins to your walk when you feel like it. Exercise is one of those things that sux at first but after a while it becomes addictive and more enjoyable. take an ipod and the time goes quickly, or spend the walk thinking about how you'd spend $10 million dollars if you won it. that always makes the walk go fast for me.

anyway, i'll stop rambling now

Hey there girly!
Sounds like you're very busy indeed!! But if you want to lose weight and get your body healthy there is really only one way to do it... and that's to do it! :)
You have to make time. It helps if you plan ahead and have meals prepared, etc.. Of course if you're in a dorm that might be hard..? But there are always good choices food wise. Always.
I started with the Atkins diet and have pretty much been South Beach for the last year and a half or so. It's all about making the right choices. If I'm somewhere that doesn't have anything for me, I will wait to eat. If I can't I'll try to make the healthiest choice possible.
And don't forget how important exercise is. It may not be fun but it's not negotiable. You can squeez in 30 minutes a day... I know you can! :)
And water.. SOOO important! :)
It is doable but only you can do it! :)
Hope to see you around! xoxo

Thanks a lot for your words. It just seems like at the end of the day im always so tired. Ugh.

I was on the South Beach diet before I went to college and lost about ten pounds. I was pretty happy. I didn't gain so much my first year. P.s I was living at the dorms..now i live with my mother. but when i was at the dorms i didnt eat a lot or even exercise. i was always working or class. same as now.

It seems I gained a lot from so much stress this summer. Before summer started I did herbalife...and i think that made me gain more weight. SO i went off of it totally.

I've been trying to do the south beach again...but my mom is kind of like "i hate diets" but i dont see the SB as a diet. Its just teaching me how to eat right.

I'm trying to get exercise in my routine. I am trying. Hopefully...I gotta get this up. I have the biggest losers cardio work out...have you tried it?

Hey! I'm pretty new too, ugh! I hate being a newb ;(

anyway, I hear ya about the "no time" thing - I work 13 hours a day including drive time. I honestly have absolutely no time to just cook all of my meals, thus me opting for the fast and ever so convenient McDonalds, Sonic, Taco Bell, whatever! Exercise is the last thing I wanna do when I get off work,

but I joined a gym that I drive right past on my way home, and I got the tanning package (to give me some type of reason to WANT to go). & I'm trying to cook the main thing I'm gonna eat all week on Sundays (im off on weekends). I did this a while ago and I started out doing really good, I went to the gym every day for 2 weeks. It's kind of addictive once you get there and get to working out you don't really want to leave. At least that's how it was for me - it's just the actually WALKING INSIDE THE DOOR that's a huge problem lol.

But, alas my laziness won and I stopped going for a month and started eating crapola again... but i'm finished with it! I'm so tired of being fat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you get some spare time I'd advise you to read the stickies, cause a lot of stuff is covered there and you won't be made to feel like a dummy if you ask a question that's already been answered (cause I made the mistake of not reading the stickies and now I feel dumb about it but whatever!)

Oh and you should start journaling too! It's kind of fun... to me.... cause I love blogging...

Sorry I'm kind of long winded...

what are stickies?

what are stickies?

whenever you click on a specific forum there are quite a few "stickies" at the top - they're usually orange. They're very insightful.

I think they are even labeled "sticky" or something. I don't have a photographic memory but let me know if you're still unsure of it. I'll try to come up with a better description lol.

hey.. welcome to the forum :)

i can SO connect with juggling between college and part time jobs.. i am going thru it as well, and i know that it teks a huge toll on ur health.. i personally put on a lot of weight towards the end of the semesters when the stress becomes ten folds and i have to stay over at other people's place to get the work done.. bad food and no work out.. :banghead:

anyways.. its once again that time.. of the year for me.. got mid-terms today and a final tmrw, and lots of term paper submission :(

but its really good to have u here.. the fact that u have joined this community shows that u have a very positive attitude.. so keep it up and u'll start losing weight in no time..

i'll write more when i'm done with the exams :D :D

tek care
