I"m new, and don't know why I haven't joined all of you before.

I am soon to be 41 years old, and have struggled with weight all of my life.

Always been the chubby child, etc

After marrying right out of high school and weighing 155, I had 2 sons within 6 years and my weight skyrocketed to 246lbs. I am only 5'1" tall, and that is being generous.

So, in summer 1999, my friend and I did Weight Watchers, I never attended meetings, she did, and I followed what she suggested.
Within 9 months on the points system, I was down 110lbs and feeling amazing.
Then, after a long nasty divorce and custody battle, my weight fluctuated back and forth 5 to 10 and sometimes 15 lbs......not a big deal.

Until about 4 years ago, when I got sick..........still don't know what is exactly wrong, but I've taken many steriods and antibiotics and take an anitdepressant everyday.
Slowly, 5lbs at a time, the weight started to pile on.
I am completely happy at 130-140, even at my height, I am not a petite person.
But with all my health problems and joint/muscle pain, I completely stopped exercising about 3 years ago, besides for an occassional stroll.
NOW, I'm at about 165 and completely miserable.

I've tried crazy stuff, Acai, etc..........tried to get back to the Points System.....and do ok for a few days, then am right back to cheating.

It's not helping that I am finally in a stable happy relationship either.

So, here I am, and I know how to do this, but I need to stay motivated.
I know it's not going to be as easy as it was 10 years ago because of my age and health issues and the meds I take, but I want to try anyway.

I'm not asking to me skinny, just back to 130-140 and I'll be happy.
I went from a size 6 to a 12, asking to be back in an 8 isn't asking too much, right????????

Welcome, I am a newb too! The folks on here are AWESOME! From what I have learned it is very simple...it is just that you have to burn more calories than you consume, you have to make sure you are getting the proper diet, Fiber Protein and appropriate carbs, cut sodium. AND exersise. I have had some bumps and have relied on my instincts to weed out the garbage advice like take acai because it will make you lose weight. There is one thing that I have learned, there is no pill or diet that will work. I had to change me, and my mindset and most of all my habits. I am proud that you have chosen a healthy lifestyle! We are all on here rooting for you! Read the stickies section of the forum it will help you alot with info so its a good place to start.

Thanks

I was starting to read your story, it is very inspiring, and that is what I was looking for.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how to get my weight loss ticker to show up when I post, lol

nice to meet you

hello to both of you! i'm a newbie too and am excited to have found this community. I think that surrounding yourself with positive people that understand or at least are supportive of your goals is very important.

BnB, I'm curious why you say that finding a stable relationship is NOT helping? How so?

Those people might mean well, but don't listen to them! Full time moms deserve to feel healthy and beautiful just anyone, if not more!

If no one around you is supportive, you will have to reach within to find your motivation. YOU CAN DO IT!

Yikes! I'm a mom too, but I would have serious issues with anyone who suggested I shouldn't bother feeling and looking good. Happy mom= happy kids. It's something you should be telling yourself, because it's so very true. In my case feeling good goes hand-in-hand with looking good.

because I am happy and content, and when we first met, I wasn't eating, and he used to make me eat

we've been together 5 years now..........and I just think being in a comfortable relationship where I know he loves me for me doesn't help encourage me to lose the weight

Hello! I'm new, too! Just a "few days old" actually:)

Welcome all us Newbies!!! :newbie:
:grouphug:

I think there's support here but... well... I think ya gotta go support other people and then ask for support! Sometimes just when I think there's no support I try to find someone who seems to need it and then mysteriously.. I get it! lol LIfe's kinda funny that way!
Well.. at least I tell myself life's that way lol! It doesn't seem to allllways work out so perfectly but... I think it comes out in the wash.

Have no idea what in the world I just said, but welcome, welcome! I know what you mean when you say "have no idea how i'm going to do this"... you said you were about to turn 41 and I just turned, myself! Losing weight definitely isn't as easy is it once was! :banghead: I totally feel your pain! Do you record all your food?
Take care! I sure hope you keep coming back, I truly do!
luv, Here I Am!
