Hey everyone, just want to introduce myself. My name is Allie, 27 year old hygienist. I just stumbled upon this site last nite, and found it very motivating. Seeing all the befores and afters, its amazing. You guys/gals are my inspiration. Really proud of everyone.

Just a lil bout me... i've struggled with my weight all my life... up and down.. up and down.. and im now i'm at my heaviest, 194lbs, last year i lost 25 lbs.. and i gained it all back plus sum. The difference between last years thinking and this years thinking, is completely different. Last year, i did slimfast, and hydroxycut, and green tea, and apple cider vinegar, and yea it worked but i wasnt really changing anything. Right now, i've decided to do it right, by just eating right, and exercising. I've even bought a treadmill. Just worried that i'm gonna end up using it a dozen times or so, and then it will collect dust, which will be a complete dissapointment, considering the money i've spent.

So.. i started my diet and exercise on monday, i'm counting my calories, and try not to go over 1200 a day, and ive been on the treadmill everyday for 40 mins so far. The first day was really scary for me. I went on it, walked sum, and ran sum, and than towards the end i thought i'd push myself, so i inclined, and ran for 5 minutes. When i finished, i thought i was going to need to call an ambulance. I was so out of breath, i was having a panic attack. Thankfully, couple minutes passed and i was OK!! But now im scared to push myself, cause i dont want to have that feeling again. So i'm starting slow, and ill work my way up. Doesnt help that im a smoker too.

Anyway, i just wanted to say hello, and tell u my story. Im very motivated right now, and i hope it stays that way. Thanks for reading!

:waving: I'm new and re-starting @ 209. I've lost enough to start gathering my fat clothes to give to Goodwill. The last time I lost weight I kept my clothes - three sizes worth. And then I had to start going into those clothes, one size at a time. This time the big sizes are going to Goodwill. Knowing I don't have them to fall back on should help if the current size gets a little snug.

Hi and welcome.

The first thing I'd suggest is that 1200 calories is too low for you. You're going to cause yourself to stall out and plateau very quickly - plus you're not going to be able to get enough nutrition and energy to maintain a workout level on those calories.

At your weight, you should be eating around 1800-2000 calories a day in order to LOSE weight.

As far as the exercise, pushing yourself to a heart attack is NOT good. Just walk - get your heart rate up, get yourself moving. You'll be able to increase your speed and pace as you get more in shape. A minimum of 30 mins a day is optimal. Also think about learning to lift weights properly. There are several good threads in the exercise area that talk about how to do so. Lifting weights will help you maintain your lean mass and raise your metabolism.

thanks for the tips, that actually makes me really happy! i can eat more than 1200 a day! YAY! lol... i dunno thou... 1800 seems like a lot of calories, u sure thats not too much?
also im on the treadmill like 40 - 50 mins a day, is it possible to do cardio for too long? after my first day on the treadmill i did slow down and pace myself, but its been a week now, and ive been on it everyday, and now im able to jog for 20 mins straight, than a walk for five, and than i jog again for ten, and walk the rest, and i usually end up doing 3miles a day, (approx 5 km).

I have not done anything with weights yet, will start this week, gonna try for doing weight exercises three times a week.
ALSO!!... i've lost 2.2 lbs since last monday! YAY!!

Great to hear your on your way to getting your weight under control! It is a challenge but It can be done!!

I was 250lb beging of the year and now am at 215 and moving toward 200 (Target weight) . I have implemented ELMM, which stands for Eat Less Move More!

Just keep reading and keep moving. Buy 9 inch dinner plates and no more fast food!!

If you want to talk to me more about how Im gett'r done, I'll be happy to share.

Welcome to the forum.

I second Karas advice.

I suggest that you visit the diaries of a few successful weight losers and see what they are doing. That might help you get your project off on the right track.
