Hey all! Advice needed .... ASAP!

Hi everyone

The idea of joining a forum of this nature came to mind while I was watching tele this morning.

Bascially I need some advice on dieting etc ... and I hope someone out there can help or offer some information. Here's my story ....

I started dieting back in January 2008, so 9 months on I am looking loads better and feeling much fitter. My clothes are loose, and I look like I have lost weight BUT when I get on the scales this loss is not reflected and I have only lost a little weight yet all my clothes fit better and I have dropped a couple of dress sizes too.

Does this mean I am turning the fat into muscle or I didnt have that much weight to lose in the first place? My excercise regime is an hours stretching, tummy sit-ups for an hour every evening. I also do an aqua class once a week.

So even though I have dropped dress sizes and look and feel like I have lost weight - the scales tell a completely different story.

Can anyone advise me of where i'm gong wrong. I have probably answered it for myself that my stretching etc is not burning enough calroies but how come my clothes etc are loose and my shape has completely changed.

Help - I need some guidance before I go mad!!!!

Many thanks :seeya:

PS. If anyone can give me advice on what type of excercises I could do at home that will burn calories, that would be fab too!

Hey Smiler!

Welcome to the forum! It can be very helpful!

As far as the scale goes... forget it! :) If you are excercising you aren't going to notice the number drop on the scale but you surely will(and have) see 'em drop in inches. Ultimately, you are trying to loose inches, right? I really wouldn't worry to much about what the scale hows as long as you the differnce in inches. Sounds to me like you are toning out(the stretching will help tremendously with that)

For the excercising at home... I use this great site that shows you exactly what you need to do with no props(and its free!) I'll have to send you the link in a message(I can't post links to other sites until you have posted to 15 threads) Its actually on the womens helath website. So helpful!

I hope this helps a little. Keep us updated!

Best of luck!

Hi there :). That site sounds like something I could use, could you send me the link as well? I'm a newbie here too :)

I'm wondering if the link is

I know I've referred people to that a few times.

To the original poster, either your scale is broke or you are genetically blessed. Your exercise routine is not conducive to adding muscle. At least not enough to balance out the amount of fat it would take to alter your body to the extent you're suggesting.

If you're happy with the way you look and the progress you're experiencing, just roll with it.

I just wanted to welcome you to the forum...There is some fantastic information here, I am sure you will get the assistance you are looking for!

Welcome Smiler! It just needs time and I believe you are on the right track to finally lose weight.

Hey all - many thanks for your encouragement and support so far. I dont know why I didnt join one of these forums sooner!!

hey all

Thanks for the links - they are great. Can I be so rude as to ask another question on my boyfriends behalf .... basically he is not fat, BUT he does have a rather big tummy (not obese but a little bigger) than it should be .. has anyone out there any ideas of how he could lose this, as he is desperate to do so ... due to work he not much time but any kind of home excercises he could do for that abdominal arear would be good. He has a treadmill aswell as one of those total gym's - but what could really target his stomach area ... any advice greatly received.

Smiler,

I am a Personal Wellness Coach and I can tell you that I got started and lost 8 lbs in 3 weeks on Herbalife products, it is so simple to use and I felt great and my energy soared through the roof. I will be happy to help your boyfriend out if you like. I am so excited, you are doing great with what you have started as well!! What an awesome feeling!!

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Narine

Hey Narine

Thanks for the encouragement, but what is a wellness coach??? Herbalife, I take it these are some form of herbal tablets? Does that mean he done need to do any excercikse for his stomach area?

He does feel tired alot of the time - but when he has started excercising before, he loses it quite quickly but gives up because he wants it all to happen overnight. Men!!

Where do you get these tablets from and how do they work?

Thanks - I feel so much better and I tried a dress on from 2 years ago, and it was loose. Yay!! I am annoyed with myself as I didnt get to go to my aqua class this week. ;o(

In this particular instance, I believe wellness coach = guru con artist. But....

I could very well be wrong.

Tighten up the abs question...

Hello, I think the best thing that he could do to tighten up his abs is to do those crunches!!! Even if he only does 50 or so a night, trust me, my husband had the same problem, but he was always too tired to work out, so as long as he doesn't need to lose weight and only needs to tighten those muscles, I would recommend that. Also, I wouldn't recommend any herbal or any kind of pill for that matter except for a multi-vitamin. We already spend enough money on unnecessary stuff. And I tried herbalife, and all it did was make me poop!!! Sorry to be so descriptive, but it would just be cheaper to go buy some ex-lax, green tea, and vitamins if that's the route you choose to take. Hope this helps a little.

I REALLY need help!!

I am female, age 16 [3 months til 17], I'm 5'8" and weigh 268!! My senior year in high school is coming up and I dont know how to get down to my goal weight [190] which is barely in my heaight's average weight catagory. I would REALLY like to get down to 190, but I havent weighed that little since I was 9 years old! I don't know how to get down there! I have a whole year to lose the weight, but I'd really like to lose 20 lbs. within a couple months so that I can look and feel at least a bit better than I do now.

I'm the kind of person who doesn't usually care what people think of me, but after two years or trying to be nice to the b*tches that ride my bus [the "popular" girls], I thought they were finally starting to like me, not that I care. I was just being nice to them because it was the right thing to do. Last week, I had just became friends with a guy that hung out with me, reguardless of how I looked and then the girls that sat behind us made him go sit with them JUST so he wouldn't be sitting by me!! How could people be so mean?!

That is my inspiration right now...proving those girls WRONG!! I am NOT a bad person because I'm obese!! I'm a really nice person once someone gets to know me, but no one gives a second look at me to get to know me because in this world, people are too obsessed with physical looks!!

Can someone please give me good exercises I can do in the privacy of my own home [i can't afford a gym]. I would REALLY like to lose the weight, no only to prove them wrong, but to make myself feel better!!

I'm sick of looking at myself in the mirror and having my face look like I'm sick!!

Can someone tell me how many calories women are meant to digest on a daily basis, is it 1800??? If I were to eat that, does that mean I should be burning that many + more when excercising too - doubt that happens! I think I only burn around 300 calories but I think at times I eat more than my daily allowance.l

Any ideas anyone?

No.

First, you should read the stickies. Particularly this one:

see page 2 of that thread.

Hey

Thanks to all for the great advice and information re calories. I have one question, and this has always been one of my biggest bug bares whne losing weight. Can anyone tell me how you can lose weight from your hips.

Are there any excercises that would enable me to make this area more straighter rather than round. I hate this part of my body and even though I have lost weight from it, its not enough (I know I should be happy with what I have got). I dont want to loose my curves, but I find I would like to make it a bit more slender. Are there any excercies that anyonecould recommend or any websites which pinpoint this area?

Thanks all
