Here I am! Rock you like a Hurricane (hehe)

Things have been good. Yesterday I was super sore still from leg day Sunday, so I actually took it easy and just did a 2 mile run. The first mile was rough… my muscles were kind of pissed off that I was running…. But after the first mile id say, they loosened up and actually felt better than they did before I ran….

I cannot believe in two months it will have been one FULL AND ENITRE YEAR since I started all of this healthy living. It has SO changed my life… its incredible.

Some may look at me and think… well she only lost 31 lbs… what’s the big deal….. its not like she was obese and got to her goal….. but to me… I conquered a problem that I felt I had… and it’s a HUGE deal.

You are truely an inspiration Melissa. Not only in achieving your goals, but in the idea of HOW you've achieved them. You have developed a lifestyle that will promote health no matter what life throws at you (stress, babies, etc ;) ). You can be confident now that no matter what bumps you hit along the way, you are armed with an inner strength that will get you through. There will always be goals and challanges to keep you going :)

Now, as for this not stretching thing.... BAD GIRL!!!! Muscles are made up of muscle fibers which build up with lactic acid when you work them. Water, of course is one way to help release the lactic acid, but if you don't stretch your really not getting it. Stretching also helps to realign these muscle fibers to prevent "knots". "Knots" are litterally a build up of lactic acid within the muscle. What you feel when you go for a massage is that break down of the lactic acid... but you can prevent it just by stretching and drinking water. It is so important, not to mention the flexability factor which will help so much with your run. To sum up, if your building up lactic acid in your muscles, they are NOT working at thier max and therefore you're not getting the full benefit of your workout!!! Your risk of injury also goes WAY up!! Ok, I'm done. I could go on and on ;) My poor clients have ALL gotten stretching lectures many times over the years!!

Congratulations again :D

Yesterday was my day off. I love my Wednesday- midweek day off ? Typically that means dinner and a movie night with my hunnie. We strategically plan this for Wednesday because it breaks up my week…. And allows us to have something fun to do on an evening when there is really just no good TV on!! So last night we went to a new restaurant in down called black and bleu. Black tie food for the blue collar worker. It was DELICIOUS!! Yum! I splurged a bit and had firebread for appetizer and we shared that… its almost like garlic toast and then there is grated parm on it and you dip it into olive oil w/ crushed red pepper in it. Its wonderful! Then for dinner I had the firehouse pasta. This was linguine w/ roasted red pepper, grilled chicken, grilled shrimp, basil, and olive oil. The food tasted amazing… and let me tell you what… I was so full. Ate way too much…. But hey its been awhile and so I enjoyed it and didn’t stress too much. Weighed 124 this morning… so I didn’t ruin any progress and all is well.

Today, it is 34 degrees outside… with blustery cold winds. I went for a lunch time run. I ran my 4 miles…. 2 miles of that fighting a terrible wind blowing me the opposite direction I wanted to go…… I still ran my 4 miles in 30:54 so I was happy about that… it felt incredible!!!

For lunch, I just finished up some meatloaf and a can of green beans w/ nothing on them….. im getting ready to also enjoy a coke zero !

Tonight I plan to go lift a little at the gym….. then heading home to whip up something healthy for dinner….. and watch some TV…. THE OFFICE hehe.

Hope everyone is well… there is my 30 second update.

I am so much happier now in my life… with my boyfriend, and most importantly with myself.
I see this coming year being another HUGE transformation in my life. I am planning for a half marathon in march… a full marathon beginning of summer…. And who know what else may come my way. Im not sure the worlds ready for me yet

Oh Hell yes!!!!
Be proud of yourself my friend!
What strides you have made in a year!!

Ending the year well... thanks to all of you!

Hello everyone, had a wonderful weekend... lots of relaxing and laundry was done hehe. Friday i ran 3.1 miles on the treadmill to prepare for my last 5K of the year that was saturday.... knee started hurting on the treadmill... so i was gettting worried. Took a little advil and it helped.
Saturday was COLD!!! i bought a balaclava..... it was helpful thats for sure!!! Ill post pics tonight..... but here is the run down!!

First things first... i did not place.... but set a new PR. WHAT A Bummer!!! If ONE of those girls hadn’t been running I would have placed… I was 4th in my age group, 16th woman overall, and 74th out of 625 runners……

Oh well. It was a good last race of the year. 22:05
My very first 5k was Sept 11th of this year… almost exactly 4 months ago. I ran a 27:33 5K….. I improved my time by 5minutes and 28 seconds in that time frame. Im proud of that!

Now its on to my half Marathon in March, My full Marathon in May, and MAYBE a triathlon… we will see.

Thanks everyone for cheering me on the last few weeks…. Means A LOT! :beating:

Well I was never a runner but I was an all-state swimmer and I did do a sprint triathlon last year. I know a bit about time improvements and I can totally agree with you that five and a half minutes is awesome. That is actually quite insane in just four months. Please, don't stop. I am really interested in seeing just how fast you are going to get. I think you will be under 20 minutes by next summer.

Last night I went to try out a new gym… terrible experience… the sales people there were rude, pushy, and made me feel unwelcome…. So I am staying put at my current gym for now. Worked out a bit last night. Got a real good arm and shoulders workout and worked abs. Here is my food intake yesterday:

Food yesterday:
Breakfast
Jimmy Dean lite turkey sausage breakfast bowl ( 230 calories, 23g of protein)
Lg coffee with sugar free cream and splenda

Lunch
½ Green Pepper stuffed with turkey burger
½ cup of mashed potatoes w/ skins on and tomato sauce
Snack 3:00- apple with PB
Snack 4:00- pretzel nuggets 180 cal, decaf hot tea with splenda

Dinner
8 hot wings, diet iced green tea

Dessert- 3.5 christmas cookies with 2% milk

Today at lunch I went for a 6 mile run. I completed it in 48 minutes and 14 seconds. I was really glad I pushed myself past my normal 4 miles at lunch…. My legs are tired now…. But it was totally worth it…. So running a lunchtime 10K was awesome for my training for an eventual marathon hehe.

How is everyone else doing? I hope well!!

I was 125lbs this morning lol….. again… 122-125 seems to be the new fluctuation. hehe

Damn, a 10K in 48 minutes?! That's awesome! Sure beats my hour long 10K! LOL I only tried it once though so I'll have to get back out there and see if I can beat my time! I just signed myself up for a half marathon in May... soo excited, got the conformation for it today!! As always... couldn't have done this all without you :D Happy to see you are sticking with things and setting so many new goals for yourself... you are AWESOME!!!!

Happy Monday!!!!

So, its been awhile I guess. Ive been busy getting ready for Christmas and working! This weekend was great! I had a wonderful time playing with my pups in the snow… got a decent work out shoveling snow…. And managed to get out to the gym after a 3 day break yesterday and get a good workout in!

Been doing so so on the eating… so many treats and holiday foods all around me at all times. I am not going to totally fight it though. Its Christmas for fart sake… and all year I have behaved and held myself to very strict health guidelines etc… so Christmas… I am going to eat a cookie or two and enjoy my family and the great foods we make! :drool5:
The plan the next 4 days is to bust my ass at the gym and really get good hard workouts in… that way when I do get my eat on… I feel a little more aware of the fact that hey… I did work hard this week so one or two cookies are fine… but 12 will counter all that hard work… and I wont want to do that!
My weight is staying around 125 right now. I did get down to 122 back at thanksgiving… but I am on a fluctuation again.. this time from 123-125. I am happy with that

Yesterday at the gym, I snapped some pics of progress…. You cant really see too terribly much of a difference… but I did notice a little muscle starting on my arm

How is everyone else!?! Hope well… gonna go check out some journals now … its been awhile and ive been slacking I know. Seems I don’t have much of a friends group on here these days… probably because of lack of effort on my part. I will be back on here full force now though… conscious effort will be made!

Oww ow! Look at you :p Lookin' good Melissa, and happy to see you are keeping busy!!! You deserve all the cookies in the world this Christmas for the accomplishments you've made this year! But I think a hive five is a healthier choice, here: :seeya: (I wish they had a high five smiley on here! lol)

Have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy new year... 2010 is gonna kick ass!!

on to the coolest present of the year: My dad and stepmom.. not even knowing that i wanted it, got me a garmin forerunner 205. I AM SO LOVING IT.

its a runners GPS... tracks mileage, estimates time of arrival upon miles, calories, keeps history of like 200 runs for you, you can plug it into the computer and get detailed analysis of runs /.... etc.

its wonderful... love it love it!!!!

anyways, since Christmas... my work outs have been decent. on Saturday i went for a 4.5 mile run in the rain... with my garmin. ( which i have named Gerdy by the way)
Then Sunday it was BEAUTIFUL out... i went for a 6.23 mile run around my town... it was GREAT!!!!! Went and got a knee brace that morning and its really been helping! Yesterday i braved the freezing cold wind and went for another 4.5 mile run.

Trying to force myself in even ugly weather so that i dont whimp out this winter... i have a 3 race series i am doing and if its cold.... i want to be preapred... cold, rain, or snow! :)

other items i got for christmas were earrings, clothes, 5k to marathon book, etc from my hunnie.... electric roaster pan and george foreman grille from dans parents, and a jack johnson cd and some perfume... etc.... from my family... and of course gerdy.

Happy Holidays! I have wanted one of those garmin watches for so long!! I'm jealous, lol...i saw your pics you recently posted and you look amazing!!

Hey long time no hear, I mean, read. How are things going? You still running even in this sub zero weather? :D

Where did you get that knee brace? I need one badly but I have no idea where to get one. My right knee always bothers me when I do anything with my legs, especially weight lifting, running and biking.
