Hi everyone!
My name is Abby,
I am sick of the way I am.
I want to make a change.
Any suggestions?
I know I am only 15, still have growing to do, but where I'm at, I really would rather not grow any more, unless it is upward, and not outward. ;)
I really want to fit nicely into a bikini this summer, and I know I have a ways to go, but I think I can do it.
I just want my self back.
I want a bikini. Hence the name. :)

Well, I think it is great that at 15 you sre conscious enough to know that you want to be healthy. Although a bikini is a good motivator, make sure you get there in a healthy manner. Not only will your weight loss stick around longer, but you will be in better shape to enjoy all those beach activities. Congrats on starting the path to a healthier life.

at your age, getting your intake in check, and being more active in school sports, is probably really all you'll need. Check out fitday.com and register for the free online program, enter every food that you eat normally, and a few things may come to light as to why you find yourself with a little weight to work off.

Thanks RJ.
I have been watching my intake lately, and have been faithful to the 1200 calorie a day idea.I did try doing track at school, but it just wasn't for me. I'm sure I will find something I enjoy that will get me moving.

Thanks RJ.

yeah track sucks, how bout swimming? you want to get a in a bikinu dont you? might be a little intimidating at first, but you'd really benefit from the team training atmosphere, you always tend to push a little harder on a team.

swimming is a great cardio excercise, its also helps in toning your arms and shoulders.... I remember when I was 12-13 and I was on the swimming team, after the season was over my shoulders and arms looked niiiiice

There are so many good things you can do for yourself out there. Drink water like crazy. At least half of your body weight a day. 82 oz a day for you. Fruit and veggies are a big plus. eat like 6 small meals a day. But make sure you get your protein. I just started my diet and exercise routine and all ready in one week 2.5 pounds are gone. Ive been reading so much on all of this this week. Volleyball was my fav sport in school. Swimming would be awsome to do.
Good luck and I do hope I helped you out.

Thank you everyone for your support and suggestions.
My school doesn't have a pool, but at home I have been doing things like picking up around my back yard, strenuously, and believe me or not, I haven't had pop for one year and four months, which I think is a great accomplishment for a teenager.
I really think if I controlled my intake, I wouldn't even need the major exercise, since it is mostly my eating habits that have gone bad.

Hey Tinibikini! Welcome to the forum.

I'm pretty close to your age, 16, so if you ever want someone to talk to... :)

How do you know 1200 calories is what you should be eating?

Do you know how many calories it takes for your body to maintain its weight?

Try multiplying 15 calories x your body weight in pounds. If you eat below this amount you will be in a deficit.

This forum can provide all the support and information you'll need.

You never lost yourself, you're still the same fabulous girl, just on the road to greater health.

Welcome.

Again, thank you all who have replied.
Well, I've seen the number 1200 floating around quite a bit, so I figured that was the amount I needed to go by to lose. But I multiplied and came up with2520, so am I way under by only eating 1200? As I've been doing it, I haven't noticed myself feeling starved, or deprived,so ..?
Hi Nola! I'm glad there are others my age in the same boat. I will chat atcha. :)

Alright I have a question for you all,
What do you do when you have gone and pigged out over the weekend? How do you keep yourself from getting upset, and pick yourself back up?

well when you fall off track, you just remind yourself of your goals, re evaluate what caused the slip, make note of it. and try to avoid situations like that, or come up with an alternative.

Hi! Welcome to the forum. I just joined last month and have found a HUGE amount of support here, I hope you do too.
I am a little concerned that 1200 calories will not be enough for you. You dont want to put your body into starvation mode, and 1200 calories is what an 80 lb person would need to maintain.
If you did the calculations correctly and got 2520, that is a good start. From there you will need to find a healthy deficit. I dont know much about this stuff, but you can find some peopel around the forum who can give you some good examples of what a good calorie range would be.
If you see Steve around here, hit him up for some answers, as he has some experience with this.
Good luck, and feel free to PM me if you ever need to talk ;)

Thank you Britta, for your advice and concerns.

Even though in the last two days I have eaten more than 1200, on the days when I was true to it, I wasn't hungry, because I let my system catch up, instead of eat&eat&eat..
2500+ seems like a lot to me, though it is likely what I was eating before I started being consciencious about what I eat.
The arrival of spring/summertime is going to help my figure greatly as well, since I love to be outside.
Thanks again!

Like I said, you will have to find a good deficit from the 2500. I was doing 1200 calories a day at first too and didn't feel hungry at all. It's really helpful if you figure out where your calories are coming from. protein, carbs, or fats. After I started slowly upping my calories, I noticed that I feel better. Sometimes I would feel like it was hard to eat so much, but I had more energy, I was sharp, and I have a better understanding of what my body really needs.
I am in no way telling you what to do, but I really want to stress how important it is to lose weight in a healthy way so that you can keep it off, and delevop good habits for life.
Good luck! I love the outdoors too, and there is so much to be done in nature!

That makes sense,
the more good energy producing calories you eat, obviously the more energy you'll have.
I need to go to the store to get some good foods.

Thanks so much, and don't worry about telling me what to do, I really appreciate the feedback
