Hello, I'm a 22 year old full time student who's had one of the worst years of my life. It's not an excuse but I just let my self go.. I'm 5"4 and for the majority of my life have been 130lbs.. I gained 40lbs in a year and have been carrying that weight for almost two years now. I kept making excuses like, I'll start my diet Monday, one more chip won't hurt.. and what do you know.. here I am 167lbs and hating me. I hate that I can't look at old pictures of my self without feeling bad about my self now, I hate the way my clothes fit, I hate the way I feel as though when I walk in the room everyone turns just to notice how much weight I've put on, and I hate the way I hate my self. I need the motivation of others to get back to a place where I like me again.. I want to feel good about my self and not steadily stiffled by my outward appearance.

So here I go, November 6, 167lbs... please.. give me some advice.

Hello noticednomore,

I can fully identify with your situation! been there done that (and still doing that some days!). I've got a goal to get to 150 pounds (sounds like a high number compared to your goal doesn't it?) I started at 268 and I've lot 57 pounds with another 60 to go...so I'm 1/2 way there. I would suggest that the 1st thing you do is to start accepting yourself the way you are today...no self loathing ever shed a pound...so accept yourself and love your body...then do the actions to change your body! I'll tell you what I've been doing...it may or may not work for you... I start my day with a 1 hour elipitical training (I get up at 5:00am), (I wasn't always able to do eliptical or 1 hour, so I had to work my way up to it). Then I eat a big breakfast (I don't count caleries...I generally know what's high caleries and what's low!), then a small lunch later than normal in the afternoon (say around 2:00pm) and no dinner (on the weekends, I may have a small dinner, but no eating after 6:00pm) I have low carbs, no sweets and only the occasional fruit and no soft drinks (I do drink alot of hot green tea, cold soda water or Perrier and regular tap water). I drink hot tea in the evening to sooth hunger before I go to bed. It's not easy every day and yes, there are days when I'm really hungry and I"ve had days where I could just taste McDonalds French fries (not the burgers..but oh..the fries!), but I've stuck to it and I'm pleased with the results...I've still got a long way to go, but I'm committed! I weigh only on the 1st of the month and I also take measurements of my hips, waist and bust once a month...I can feel it in my clothes, but sometimes, it's good to see the numbers. For me, I don't want to look every day...because I don't want to risk seeing weight go up due to fluid retention etc...

Hope this helps...and remember...love your body...we all react more positively to love than hate!

Hey noticednomore, welcome!

Have you taken a look around at the Before & After, and the Weight Loss Diary Sections? Starting a weight loss journal of some kind can be a really helpful tool. This article http://body-improvements.com/resources/eat/ is a great article for explaining a lot in terms of nutrition and how to balance your calorie intake.

I hope that helps to get you started... What are your plans for nutrition and exercise?

Hey

First off CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You have taken action :) 90% of people that say they want to lose weight actually never take the first step.

I find that posting your before pictures on places you will see them everyday help like on your fridge, it keeps you motivated.

Here is a post on this forum about how I lost (and continue to lose) 17LB 3.6% body fat and over 8inches in 25 days..

Hey there,

Well, I am pretty much in the same situation. At 5'6", I used to weight 120/130, and then I went through an eating disorder, and a bad break up, and my weight got up to 165. I slimmed down 10 lbs last year, but I'm back at 167 as of now. I'm a full time student as well, 20 years old, and I find it hard as ever to lose weigh tin college when all of my friends are little sticks. Let's keep each other accountable! What do you eat in your diet? Message a friend when you feel like emotional eating. You can even message me!!!!!

Hey! My story is similar to yours. Im 22, and i was mostly 150 pounds my whole life.. then one day I got on the scale and it said 180, i'm lower now then I ever have been weighing 145. It took me months before starting anything, but I'm determined to get down to my goals and it's great that you are too. Getting started is the hardest part, but once you get started it just becomes a habit. We all get down on ourselves so if you ever need to talk send me a message!
