hi i have a bit of belly fat but im not a fat person, im trying to burn my bodyfat so i can gain a six pac and then start to build muscle, im eatin healthy. will weights help me tone up if im not using protein to build buscle as im trying to lose weight first? please help

Yes, using resistance training along with cardio training and a sensible diet will allow you to drop bodyfat so you 'look good nekkid'.

Gaining significant muscle requires training hard and eating MORE calories than you need.
Losing significant fat requires training hard and eating LESS calories than you need.

In both situations, you better be eating enough protein! I'm a fan of watching carb intake while trying to shed fat, since carbs are the body's primary energy source. Limit the carbs...the body will look for energy elsewhere (stored fat, and/or conversion of protein into glycogen and ketones). I don't like 'low carb, all the time' though...rather I go with carb cycling.
 
so if i stick to what im doing which is eating low fat foods doing cardio and weights, do you suggest i do all this while drinking protein shakes? thanks
