Hello all, I'm Michael, 37, from Liverpool. I'm fed up of starting over. My cravings seem to take over after a few days of being good and I give in to temptation. It's really, really getting me down.

Any help is welcomed.

Hey Michael - I'm from Portsmouth :) Nice to see a UK'er on the boards. I tend to be the same and can be "good" for a few days and then fall off the wagon a bit. I think what has helped me is not having "fuck it" days - so if I mess up at lunch, I don't write off the whole day. It's just a bad meal, or a bad snack, or whatever, and then I move on. What do you tend to give into? Mine is crisps and cheese! I've lost 31lbs since Jan though and the main reason has been posting on here and writing my food each day. Maybe you should try it :)

Hello sunflower and thanks for your message. That is very helpful, thanks. Congrats on you weight loss, what an achievement! I will definitely keep a food diary on here.

My weakness is anything really, although cakes, chocolate and sweets seem to be my downfall. Someone seems to bring something to work everyday to share and there's only so much resistance I can give!

Tiredness seems to be a major factor though. I have two young kids and not a night goes by without one of them needing a wee or a drink or just a good cry at three in the morning. I'm trying my best to manage it all though, with some success; it is getting better.

I think quality of sleep is an issue. I'm actually heading out tonight to get a new mattress. I had family come to stay at the weekend and I slept on an air mattress for a couple of nights and, to be honest, I felt much better for it.

The tiredness is definitely a massive issue for me. It's so much easier to eat crap when you're tired. That and I have little to no energy to exercise. I used to workout constantly so, I kept the weight at bay but the energy has just left me.

Anyway, time to wash the kids. I'll be back...

I think sleep certainly helps! Glad you got a new mattress - and that you'll start logging food. Some people hate calorie counting but I love it. Although entering the bottle of wine, bowl of ice cream and crisps into my fitness Pal has somewhat traumatised me this evening..

Hi, Michael & welcome to the forum. Maybe instead of the all or nothing approach to diet try just cutting down for a week or 2 & ease into it. My FitnessPal does make tracking your food easier & it wouldn't be a bad exercise to see how many calories you consume in a 'normal' day. Getting a new mattress was a good idea. Sleep is SO important!

Thanks Cate, I'll check out the app later today.

So.... weighed in at somewhere between 96 and 100 kg yesterday. I have mechanical scales and it seems to depend on what part of them I stand! At 6' 3'' I think that puts my BMI at about 26 or 27 or something.

Did a five mile jog on my lunch break yesterday. I felt very energised after sleeping on my new mattress. It's amazing what a difference it makes. Felt like a new person.

Foodwise, I slept in today (kids were both out, result! But it meant my natural alarm clock wasn't there) so I didn't have time to pack lunch. I usually do it the night before but I was painting the kitchen last night so it was a case of, sod it, bed. So I had to grab something from the lunch van. I was pretty good and got a tuna wrap and and chicken and quinoa salad, which was surprisingly good.

Going to IKEA tonight for some stuff. Don't know if I'll be able to resist the call of the meatballs....

Ok, been an awful weekend. It seems the whole family has been out of action with food poisoning. Today is the first day I've felt semi-normal since Friday so hoping to be up and running at full capacity by tomorrow.

Hi my friend .. please forgive My nerdy posts.. however .. if you have cravings.. more times than not you have a parasite on board .. candida /yeast.. there's really not much that can be done about it .. you have a normal microbiota that is full of different kinds of microbes.. that normally live in and on you .. however.. when it comes to the cravings there is a overgrowth ..&.. they have begun dictating the type & the amount of foods that you are ingesting .. why.. well.. if there is any type of imbalance within the intestinal flora meaning you have more yeast/ candida crowding out the beneficial flora within the intestines .. this can create all kinds of havoc .. Through out the body .. microbes actually omit chemical Products .. which are actually harmful to other microbes .. including us .. The medical field actually makes antibiotics out of these chemical products omitted by these microbes.. Some are also used as pesticides in organic farming .. as they are natural products .. You would probably benefit from a probiotic there's actually a really good one I can tell you about it's Dr. Ohhira's probiotic .. this would begin to reestablish the beneficial flora within your intestines .. you must take into consideration that one way to get rid of these microbes is you have to starve them .. reducing your processed foods including breads .. high sugar fruits .. grains .. potatoes .. and the peanuts & peanut butter .. pistachios .. cereals .. why .. well it's really the story process with the grains.. and then the sugary foods such as the high sugar fruits are gonna feed the candida that is already living with in your system.. microbes omit the chemicals in your system as they are competing with the other microbes that live there enjoying the food supply that you offer to them .. these chemicals which can interfere with the translation of newly transcribed proteins which are going to create a toxic malfunctioning protein.. & then go to try to function within your body .. as synthesize to do so .. in Theory this is the creation of autoimmune diseases.. as toxic proteins are secreted out of the cell they were synthesized in to go function elsewhere within the body .. and with the cravings .. well.. they are right in the intestines .. and they are snatching as much from you as they possibly can .. which decreases the amount of the nutrients absorbed into circulation.. for cellular uptake .. Olive leaf extract .. Oil of oregano .. actually are wonderful for reducing the overgrowth of Candida .. however you must take into consideration when you reduce your sugar intake it's going to create the cravings more strongly because you were actually competing for the food you're ingesting .. please stand strong .. This is the die off stage .. which is what you're experiencing .. with the cravings the microbes are trying to survive .. as you feel the urge to ingest more because what you ingested didn't entirely make it into circulation .. thse cravings can get very strong .. also you may experience fatigue .. should really only last a couple days .. taking the olive leaf extract or the oil of oregano can help as they are anti-microbial/fungal ..

was it just because you were hungry or was there some other form of stress involved ?

I would suggest you start posting your daily food intake here to see if I and the other members can see any reasons or patterns which might lead to this random excessive hunger.

How much protein are you eating ? adequate protein is not only important for health, it help keep you full for longer which may help with the excessive hunger.

Thank you, that would be much appreciated.

So far... only coffee and water.

2 cups of coffee
2 pints of water
