HELP!!!

Hey! I'm Toni, I'm nearly 19, I'm 5,6 and weight prox 17st. My target is 12st. I've had an up and down weight pretty much all my life, lost a couple of stone twice but not out of diet, it just seemed to come off so not sure what I did if i'm honest. But in the past year, my weight has gone up and up and I've gone up 3/4 dress sizes. Recently, I got weighed at the doctors as a general thing they do now, and the 17st mark shocked me completely! Most of my jeans/combats are size 22 but I've recently had to buy some new work trousers and had to get a size 24 which was horrible!

I've tried dieting a few times but my problem is.. I have no self control. It also doesn't help that I asked my Dad to buy some more fruit and stop buying stuff like crisps, biscuits etc and with that, he told my Mum and sister and everyone that I'm on a diet. So every time I snacked or had anything fatty, they have ago at me and even take the piss sometimes. I have no confidence at all when it comes to my weight. I can be walking through town and there's mirrors in the centre and when I see myself walking towards them, it makes me feel so rubbish and my confidence drops instantly. Long story short.. I'm sick of feeling like this, having sore legs where they rub together, and just generally feeling down about it. Hense why I'm spending my Sunday night writing this! I think I know what I need to do.. I think I just need incouragement, someone to talk to who ain't going to be harsh about it like my family and maybe extra tips etc.

Thanks in advance for any advice, comfort etc.

Toni

Welcome to the forums, Toni :)

This can be a great place for encouragement as well as finding all sorts of tips for weight loss.

First recommendation is not looking at it as a 'diet', but rather, a lifestyle change. This is something you'll be doing indefinitely in order to maintain a healthy body image. It's ok to slip and have bad moments where you lose self-control and/or gain weight. It happens. The important thing is you take it in stride and keep your focus on what you need to do in order to stay healthy.

Also, have you checked out the 'Before/After' section of this forum? It's awesome for motivation! You get to read a lot of great stories and see some amazing pictures. So, another recommendation is checking out that part of the website :) Link is here: http://weight-loss.fitness.com/f/26/before-after-and-in-between

One final thing real quick: gum. Have you tried chewing gum when you're feeling tempted to eat something bad? It can be a real lifesaver in those kinds of situations! I chew it constantly and it really does help :)

Well, I hope that helped a little :) Good luck to you!

Hey Toni

Use the negativity you get from family or from seeing yourself in the mirrors in town to your advantage, Prove to your parents you can lose weight and let the mirrors give you the drive and determination to succeed.

Check out the before and after pictures and see for yourself that regular people can and are losing massive amounts of weight and YOU CAN TOO

hey toni sorry to hear about your problems you have been dealing with. I would really like to see you succeed in your quest for weight loss. Going based of my own experience the mental battle is huge part of the battle but with the right system and support group it sure makes things alot easier. Just take everyday one day at a time and dont be scared to reward yourself for your success. Best of luck and I hope to hear good thing later down the road. You can do it.

One day at a time! I'll keep that in mind! Thank you. Hopefully I can bring some good news to the table soon. Got myself weighted today and got myself a book to keep up to date with what I'm eating and doing excersise wise. Going to get myself a bike soon and start going cycling to and from work and on my days off. Got to get rid of this. Sick of being embarrassed when I'm out and dredding summer because of it! Thanks for the comment. Appretiate it! :)
