I hope someone can help me...Ive tried nearly every diet and Im sure Im getting fatter..so whats the answer? My friend has lost loads of weight, and she says she doesnt diet..but..she doesnt actually eat much either..her portion sizes are tiny.. I really dont know what to try next..please help!

you need to first start by calming down and taking a deep breath :)

several in fact...

You've tried both weight watchers and slimming world - why have both of those failed for you? Are you weighing and measuring and accurately recording your portions? are you eating enough?

Starving yourself and eatig small portions isn't a good answer - being careful about what you do eat is the answer... Stop trying to have a dramatic change overnight - and have soe faith in your self -and work on a lifestyle change... and take it day by day meal by meal...

Thank God you are here Mal...I was hoping you'd reply..Im sitting here in tears on my own..Im so fed up with myself and hit a real downer. I hate the way I look. Why cant I stick to anything?? What should I do?

I have just spoken to my mum on the phone..which has helped a bit..Im slowly calming down..lol. m

Mum has recommended that I should try the Rosemary Conley diet. What do you think? Am I setting myself up for my heartache?? From what mum says the diet has 3 meals a day, its low fat food.

I dont know what that diet is -but honestly, and this is what worked for me after years of frustration... but giving up the mainstream diets - figuring out a calorie level I could live with - and just eat what I want.. within that calorie range... I have always avoided fast foods and fried foods, so it was just a matter of adjusting portion sizes to what Ic an live with.

A couple of thoughts.

First, the best diet is one that you can stick to. Many fad diets are simply too strict to follow. You can start by keeping sweets out of your house and keeping a constant supply of fruits and vegetables nearby.

If you need pre-packaged meals, you may want to look at eDiets or Jenny Craig - but their success is dependent on you staying on their plan. So again, the best diet is one that you can stick to.

Second, have you had your thyroid checked within the past six months? Thyroid disease is commonly under-diagnosed and can make losing weight difficult.

Third, exercise, every single day. Find a friend to walk with or, if you're in a relationship, grab your honey.

Fourth, keep a food journal. Just writing down what you are eating will make you more accountable to yourself.

Finally, put a smile on your face and tell yourself that you can do this. :)

I really wanna help. My biggest problem is that i expected results too soon. You have to be patient, and find a plan that works for you.

Personally, I developed my own kinda plan (still working on it).

I reccommend finding what your BMR (basal metabolic rate) is, this is how much calories you can burn by just lying in a bed all day (bmi-calculator.net). Cut that amount by 500 calories, and this is what you can consume in a day (suppose its 2500 calories, then you can consume 2000). Therotically, this alone should drop a lb a week. Incorporate some exercise, and if you are burning 500 calories daily, you could, therotically, lose 2 lbs a week.

Make sure too add enough protein to your diet (to maintain muscle mass). For me personally, spread out the meals, have 5-6 meals a day, ranging from 400-300 calorises (less or more, for your metabolic needs)

Hopefully this helps. Myself and many members (such as RJ) has found a lot of success in using math to your advantage of losing weight.

edit: this applies to people that are very obese in the first place. If you are some what near your goal weight, new rules may apply to the game.
