Help With Getting Bulk

Hello everyone. I have been reading many posts about bulking up and was wondering what that requires. I heard of bulking and then cutting but I'm pretty new to the "cutting" phrase and my guess is that its when you lose all the fat to make your muscles show through? Would that mean that in order to "bulk" you need to put on fat? I am 16 years old, about 5'9 and 138 pounds (about 13% body fat). I started about 3 weeks ago doing 3 full body weight lifting workouts a week to try to bulk up, when I realized how weak I actually am (1RM is only like 125 lbs on bench). Obviously I don't have much muscle on me but at the same time I weigh 138 so I'm not skinny but not fat. My plan has been to hit the weights 3 times a week for my upper body and on the other 3 days I am doing a vertical leap program that is strengthening my legs and preparing me for the basketball season. In all honesty I was hoping to get rid of some extra fat and at the same time replace it with muscle. I was wondering if it works to go at about 2000 calories a day, 400 of them being a 50g protein shake. Doubts were raised when I read about bulking and cutting, and my question is basically do I need to put on weight and fat and then cut it or can I eat better, take in protein, and work out to replace the fat with muscle at the same time?

2000 cals, hell no!
2500 is average.

if your bulking dont even bother counting the cals. Just make sure your always full up.

Make sure you eat plenty of meat/high protien foods. (4-6 portions as big as your fist)

Well I want to bulk but I want to do it without getting fat if possible. Is it possible to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time so I don't end up with that look of muscle covered in fat? Thats why I was thinking of doing 2000 calories a day with 50 g of protein so that I could lose some fat but at the same time gain muscle.

You can't really do both at the same time. That's why there are cut and bulk cycles. If you really wanna get big you're gonna have to get some fat too, because you have to get about 20% of your calories from fat. If you really don't want to have much fat when you bulk, you'll need to cut first, that way you'll be as cut as possible when you bulk.

your in a very similar situation that i was at the start of the year not to mention it's almost scary that you're the same age as me and your almost the same height and weight that i was in january.....anyway, here's something to consider

do 6 - 8 weeks of solid cardio (3 - 5 times a week for 30 minutes each session)...If you've only been using weights for 3 weeks then you shouldn't have made that much progress with strength especially considering your diet so forget about that...

eat about .5 - 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyfat and stay away from simple carbs (the ones found in sweet foods like chocolates and lollies)

after this you should have lost some fat so start bulking, hope i've helped
