Help with digital scale?

I have a slight problem with my Weight Watchers digital scale.
It looks like this:

I noticed the problem several weeks ago (I hadn't really bothered to use the scale before then). I stepped onto the scale and the number it gave me was like 20 pounds less than the doctor's office said I weighed. Naturally, I didn't believe it and tried again. This time the number was about 30 pounds more than that. I tried setting it in a place where it would be completely level, and this time it was within a couple pounds of what the doctor's scale said. I tried it again to see if it would give the same weight, and it did.
Since then, though, the scale has been telling me something different every time. I step on and off the scale until it gives me the same weight three times in a row, and that's the weight I go with.

I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on calibrating the scale, or just something that would make it more accurate.

When i was lookiing at scales -that scale got miserable reviews on amazon.com because of that very reason -- inaccuracy... and inconsistancy...

try putting it on avery flat surface and not moving it - ever - and taking it out of the bathroom... and step on it in the exact same spot every time...

Wow that's odd. I sometimes get weird weigh ins and I just disregard them and comeback later. But never more than a pound or 2 off. 20 pounds is a heck of a lot to be off. You might need to return it.

I'd love to return it, but I've had it for like half a year or something. I'll probably just have to buy a new one. Any recommendations (not too expensive please)?

What price range are you looking for?

Poke around on Amazon.com or Epinions.com - they have a ton of reviews of various scales...

then go to bed bath and beyond and test weight a few of them

Someone had a scale question the other day - that humidity seemed to be playing a factor in the weighing process..

but whar you can do - is take something that has a static weight- like a pile of books and weigh it a few times - and see if it weighs the same thing every time...

its not stuck on the carpet or something soft is it? thats the only reason i can think of it would be that far out.
Somebody on here suggested the idea to me because we have uneven floor boards to put measuring tape in the corners of where it weigh so i can put the scales in the exact same place everytime and get consistancy which worked tons.

I've got it on the kitchen tile. Granted, I've got some deep grout, but I've got each of the feet resting on a tile so that it's even. I spoke to my mom about the scale, and she said it cost like 30 dollars and didn't seem too keen on the idea of buying a new one. If I can find something under that price, she may be willing to buy it. I don't think she's entirely convinced yet that I'm serious about losing weight (I got that from trying to convince her to get me a gym membership, but I'm making progress there).

forget the scale for the time being - get yourself a 99 cent tape measure or a long ribbon and use that-- just measure every two weeks and note the changes...

you'll see a difference in m easurements and how your clothes fit - you don't need a scale to tell you you're losing :D

Yeah, I'll definitely do that, I've heard you shouldn't weigh yourself too often anyways.. but it's still fun to update my ticker. :p

I leave my scale in the bathroom behind the door and don't move it. If you do have to even nudge it, stand on it for a second then off and it should be set. All scales are different though...
