Help. Possible Hip/Thigh injury?

I've been out of action for over a month with a lower back problem.

That is sorted.

I went for a run on Saturday. The next day, my outer thigh area was pretty sore and stiff.

I rested it, until yesterday. Another run. This morning, again, really sore outer thigh, pretty much just below the level of my butt, in line with my groin. I have to point out, my groin nor my butt hurt, just the outer thigh, below hip level.

Today walking back home, and in some discomfort, I pressed where it was hurting the most. I noticed there was a kind of grinding sensation with the occasional 'clunking'. This worries me a little.

I did use to get this pain from time to time after long runs e.g. 15k + , but it'd usually disappear after a day or so.

Slightly concerned it could be a result of wear and tear. I'm only 32. I hope it's not my hip. Obviously, a doctor, or physio is the only person that can confirm, but does anyone have any such experience or advice?

Thanks

Outer thigh into the butt may be IT band inflammation. I am 48 and started running regularly about 2 years ago and have had that off and on. Try icing, ibuprofen, IT band stretching before and after runs, and then use a foam roller after runs (expect that to hurt). If that doesn't help, you might want to go see an ortho just to make sure you don't have any structural damage.

It’s probably a combination of things. I would recommend seeing a doctor in order to receive a proper diagnosis.

You are probably feeling pain from stiffness. Do you warm up your body before jogging or running? If not then you should do. Stretching is also very good before exercise. It would make your leg’s muscle flexible.
You may apply massage therapy since massage therapy can increase circulation to your areas of pain and help relieve your current symptoms. Your injury may be flaring up again because of stiffness or any hidden reason. Whatever the reason it is happening because of getting little blood flow.

All I want to suggest you warm up before any kind of exercise. Massage if possible. I would also suggest you to apply heat and ice, or using Icy-hot or alternatives for pain relief. Also Tiger balm or some other alternative may be helpful! I would only use drugs as a last resort!
