help on a weight gain paradox

My mother has begun to lift weights once again. She has put in cardio, weight training and abdominal work, however she has been gaining weight from fat ever since she started. Its not the scale but her cloths are getting tighter and it is becoming a bit noticable. She is definetly not overtraining though and is not eating more than usual. She is 43 years old. Does anyone know why shes been gaining weight?

She is gaining weight from fat or muscle?

From what I understand, it is typical to put on a few pounds during the initial period of weight training for most individuals.I'd give it at least 6 weeks before becoming concerned.

Its definetly fat. However, the problem is more psychological. If one doesn't see results, if not, negative results, theytend to feel out of control or will lose interest. However, patience is a virtue, or for the non religious, very usefull

we've both thought of that possibility but from what shes telling me its deffinetly not the case. She wouldve told me if she was i think.

well it's prity cut and clear, I this case she must be eating more. or eating things that are not good for her. or wearing tighter clothes (not likely).

yeah, maybe shes taking too much of of a certain nutrient, and the body cant use it, so its gettin stored as fat. or like phaladex said, she must be eating more. and shes hiding it. but dont listen to me, you know her better than i do

Whats her diet like? Exercise alone isn't the answer. Eating right and exercise is.
yeah, she might be unknowingly eating more than normal, or at least not eating a clean diet.

And once women hit their 30's, their metabolism drops significantly each year. Therefore, if a woman doesn't want to gain weight as she ages, she will have to eat less or exercise more every year to make up for the slower metabolism.
