Help Needed

I am new to the board and could use some help. first some background on me. I am 42 male and putting on some weight. I have a special needs child so stress is pretty high. My wife and I have gotten into the habit of having a snack around 8PM when things calm down in our house. I know I need to exercise but the problem is time, there is just not enough of it. Yes….. I know all people say it and its true if you really want something then you can make it happen but I just refuse to wake up at 5AM, it’s bad enough I am up at 6AM. Also there is no time after work. I am out by 5 and home by 6 and then my child gets all of my attention, then dinner and a shower and then it’s around 7:30 PM and I am beat and do not feel like exercising. I started walking to my bus stop which is a half a mile away, so I am walking a mile a day which I feel is better than nothing. It takes me only 10 min each way, I am a fast walker. I just don’t know if it is going to make any impact on weight loss. I’m not expecting any miracles of course. I thought about buying a rowing machine that I could use at home which would be easy to store but I think it would get boring. I tried doing crunches but I had a hernia a few yrs back and whenever I do an exercise like that it pulls on it and hurts. So here are my questions.
1) Will walking 20 min a day, once for 10 min in the morning and 10 in the evening have any impact?
2) Are there any snacks that we can have in the evening to fill the desire of sweets?
3) Are there any home exercise equipment that I can buy that is easy to store and fun to do and works for losing weight as well?

Walking will have an impact. It might be minor, but it's better than nothing.

As for snacks, vegetables could help. They're low in calories and good for you. As an alternative, people who are trying to lose weight often take protein powder. You can get low calorie ones that fulfil your protein requirements while, at the same time, making you feel very full.

For a home workout, I'd recommend buying a set of freeweights. You can create numerous full-body workouts with just dumbbells, and they're easy to store. Resistance bands are also very helpful. Check this website's exercises database for exercises you can do.

Honestly, it’s harder to get your heart rate up with walking since its low impact but, if you work hard at it, a 145-lb person can burn about 180 calories in 30 minutes. Just make sure you walk briskly--pretend you're trying to catch a bus--and keep you head up, back straight and swing your arms.

Fruit should be your number one choice. Especially fruits such as oranges, plums, cherries, and any other berries. These are lower in natural sugars (aka fructose) than fruits such as bananas, apples and melons. With that said, be creative! Make a fruit salad and have a small cup each night to keep things interesting.

Do you need to buy an expensive cardio machine or weight equipment? I believe you should not. In fact, you can set up your entire home gym for $200 or less. When you add it up, in the long run this is a lot less expensive than a gym membership!

Below are 5 crucial pieces of home gym equipment that are inexpensive, will allow you to get a complete workout and won’t take up a ton of storage space.

• Adjustable Dumbbells
• The Step
• Weight Gloves
• Exercise Ball
• Resistance Bands

Hopefully, it would help.
