Help my clothes are too big!

Something I hadn't planned for when I set off on this journey to my ideal weight was what I was going to do when my clothes got too big.

I'm currently 209 Lbs, the weight I started at 231 Lbs. I've spent most of the last couple of years in sweatshirts, hoodies and jogging bottoms and I find jeans tend to grow with you.

So now having lost 22 Lbs I find myself in a situation where all my current clothes are too big and baggy and wearing stuff which fit me or was tight a month ago now makes me look ill.

Clothes that fit me 5 years ago when I was nearer 198 Lbs are still too small.

In the meantime I am enjoying wandering around in saggy clothes.

I have the same problem, and refuse to spend lots of money on clothes that might not fit anymore in a couple of months.

I have a few basics that fit, and for everything else, I scout charity shops and second hand shops. I work in one myself (charity shop, that is), and we get loads of really good quality stuff in, so I know what I am looking for. I know some people are hesitant to shop in those shops, but really...you can get the most amazing stuff, at a fraction of the highstreet price, and you can support a charity or two while you're at it. And when your stuff is too big, you can donate it back to the ship. Even better. :)

I agree. I got hooked on charity shops when I was on my big project. They are a wonderful way of celebrating as weight comes off... It was certainly the only way that I could have afforded to buy a new outfit literally every week - and a brilliant way of celebrating every reduction - always wearing clothes that fit the new smaller size. People are hesitant to shop there - but no-one knows where you bought your clothes...

That's a great idea because there's no way I also want to hold onto my 'big stuff''. My wife suggested I go out and buy a new pair of jeans yesterday and I can't bear the thought of going out and buying something new that I may only fit in for a few weeks. Thanks for that suggestion!

When I was big (UK size 32) I spent a fortune in Evans on clothes... I had a well paid job (computer contractor) and I spent accordingly...

I lost weight after I stopped working.

When my big clothes became too big (as I lost weight) I got loads of compliments on how I looked and how nicely dressed I was - and (since I was buying them at charity shops) the clothes that I was wearing cost next to nothing in comparison.

How we look has nothing to do with how much we pay for the clothes and a lot to do with how we feel about ourselves...

Aye, Changed size so often over the last few years. Personally I love most of the supermarkets for clothes. Paying a fraction of a "proper" branded item, just because it's missing one logo/name, and yet in a few weeks it's likely you'll be another size again lol.

Rough examples nice tshirt with huge pictures/logos etc - £5-6 in asda, or £30-40 Nike for a "tick" logo.

End of the day you need to remember these are "temporary" clothes until you hit your ideal weight :) Then you can go shopping crazy!

Also remember you don't need to stock your whole warddrobe all of the time, keep some of the bigger items, and just do a rolling rotation as you go down. Even now I have items 2-4 sizes bigger than me, and a few that are too small that were offer for when I get there :)

Weirdly I have some T shirt that still fit when I had them about 10 years ago ( I was 12 years old at that time )
My mother says my clothes grows with me.

LOL I did my big project in my late 40s after well over 20 years as a very big person... I found some old clothes of mine from before my big weight gain in my 20s and had a fun time dressing up in some old ra-ra skirts and other fashion clothes from the late 70s early 80s that were totally inappropriate for someone my age - not to mention the current fashions (but lots of fun - and a big sense of achievement)...

Don't you love that problem??

I'm currently at 186; down from my high of 245. I've in the last 2 months, spent nearly $400 updating my wardrobe.
