help me get on track for college!? (before pics)

I'm going to start college soon, and I wondered if anyone could give me some pointers on getting more in shape for college as well as not gaining the freshman 15....20....whatever it is now. I'm not terrible right now, but I'm 5'1'', so it gets hard sometimes, especially since I've never liked exercising and so never have really done any. I want to change that in college, but I'm afraid I won't have a lot of time available, since I always keep myself busy. I'm at 115 lbs right now, but I carry it kinda heavily on my frame. I have some pics, too...I took them in skinny jeans and short shorts that I would love to wear sometime this year but kind of overflow right now. If anyone could give me some tips besides saying "diet and exercise" (yes, I know that!) but could be a little more specific I would greatly appreciate it. I would like nothing better but to be able to wear a bikini by spring break! :)

(The first one I just put because I actually like, but the rest I'm really not so big on...I also took some sitting as compared to standing, because sitting's always worse!)

Oh, and then for the last pic, that was a question I had because I'm not so much of an exercise enthusiast, and that's what my stomach does when I do crunches...is it supposed to tense up and stick out like that? This sounds really lame, I know, but I stopped doing crunches because it seemed like I was doing them wrong...

I'm not going to say, "diet and exercise."

But I am going to say, "read the stickies."

They've been stuck for a reason. There have been some very powerful and enlightening discussions over the years here and those are the ones that have been stuck. Losing fat is pretty much done the same way for each person, relative to the core fundamentals. So I'd start by reading the words of wisdom stickie.

What are you going to study in college?

Most people actually end up with more free time than they've ever had in college. At least that's been my experience.

When I went off to college, I found that the buffet-style meals in the dorms and the late night pizzas were killers. It takes a lot of discipline to resist that.

from what i understand doing just crunches/sit ups will not make your stomach flat. the only way to make the fat go away is to loose weight in general. and the only way to do that is to be physical and not to consume more then you burn... which... uuh.. heh is.. exercise and dieting LOL...aah i lol'd. all i think you need to do since you don't need to loose much is just do some kind of simple physical activity like cycling or walking at the park for 20 mins you know just something fun you enjoy. also.. yes..it is normal for yer stomach to do that when doing sit ups. huzza!

That's a pretty good response.

Though I'd argue that 'toning', assuming you mean weight training, is pretty important when a relatively small person is dieting. It sends the perfect signaling to preserve the muscle you do have in the face of a caloric deficit, which goes a looonnnngggg way in obtaining that 'fit' look so many people are going for.

But muddying the waters at this point is probably futile since the OP doesn't like exercising. This above post is great b/c cleaning up the diet and becoming active in something you can a) tolerate or b) enjoy is most likely to keep you consistent which is necessary.

Steve your so right about College. They do come out with threats of for every hour in class you have 5 hours out of class work. But really that only happens for the last 2 weeks with the giant projects. I had so much time to work out but what did I do? Party... I should have Partied and worked out.

Moral of the story, use you Campus GYM it's got cool stuff and it's free. Just make sure you got at a time when it's pretty empty. If you go there when all the athletes are there you'll never get a machine.

Help...

Does anyone know how to get the weight ticker to show up under whatever you post? I've tried doing the paste things, but I don't think I'm doing right or something. I'm so technically challenged... hehehe!!! If anyone can tell me how they did it or where they pasted those web url things, I'd appreciate it... So frustrated, ughhhh!!!:banghead: Thanks!!!

One of the best things about UT Austin (my alma mater) is that it had gyms all over the place and many were open all hours. The thing is, the gyms don't do you any good if you never go to them.

I didn't go very much. :angelsad2:
