Welcome to the site. Read around and post any questions you have. This is a great place to learn and stay motivated.

What approach will you be using to lose the weight? Are you counting calories? What are some of the struggles you have?

Kudos for wanting to lose the weight. Are you working out? That is very important in losing weight especially if you want to lose it faster. How many calories are you consuming each day? Should be between 1600-2000 and you should workout 5 times a week for 60-90 minutes a day doing cardio and light strength training. If you follow this diet and hit the gym you will lose the weight in no time. Good luck and wishing you well.

1600-2000 seems kind of high to me.... Especially for someone so petite. And you don't know her age, so how can you say for sure what range she should be in? Also, there's a big difference between 1600 and 2000 calories. That can mean the difference in gaining a pound a week or losing a pound a week (or pretty close anyway). Just wondering how you came up with that number?

i don't like counting calories, i kinda see it as an obsessive thing that anorexic people do. i just try to eat my 5+ of fruit n veg a day plus a serve of meat n a couple of slices of bread a day or sum pasta but i eat the carbs before 4pm or i don't lose weight. most people say you should cut out carbs to lose weight but i think this is really unhealthy because that's the main food your brain needs to function properly n if i don't get enough carbs i cant concentrate properly. i also don't eat lollies or chips or biscuits or drink fizzy drinks n try to only give myself take away treats twice a month at the most. and with packaged items i make sure i don't eat anything with over 10-15g of sugar or fat per 100g.

Ive been joined with the gym for 4 years but i never really make myself go consistently, i go 4-6 times a week (an hour or 2 each visit, both cardio and weights) for 2 or 3 weeks n then i get bored with it n stop going for a few weeks which ends up in me putting the weight back on.

Commitment and pushing myself is my biggest issue, i think I'm scared of losing weight too cause Ive never been slim before so it's a little bit daunting, maybe that's why i give up n don't stick to it? i guess I'm scared of how different I'll be treated or if losing weight will change me or my life in a negative way or that my life will be just as shitty wen i lose the weight...

hope that wasn't too much rambling :D
And I'm 20 btw

Welcome to the forum! :)

There are a ton of non-anorexic people that count calories and for some people it is one of the key components of being able to lose weight because it makes them able to track and monitor their calorie differential (calories taken in versus calories burned) to control their weight loss in a healthy, slow but steady way. It also enables them to know exactly how much more to lower their caloric intake when they plateau to keep losing weight again (because the reason you plateau is that your body has changed and needs a lesser amount of energy). It's hard to deal efficiently with a plateau if you don't know exactly how many calories you are eating on a regular basis and therefore can not be completely sure how to change your eating habits in order to continue the weight loss.

To put it in perspective, I was able to have pizza for my Dad's birthday yesterday because I knew for certain that I had the calories available for it. It's not about limiting yourself but understanding fully in black and white what your limits are.

But it is up to you. I just wanted to tell you about calorie counting because I think it's important. :)

In the end, being here at the forum has been a huge motivator for me to keep committed and I hope it is that way for you, too. :)

okey well ive never had anyone explain it that well to me before, but i really wouldn't know where to start. i don't know how many I'd need to begin with, and how do you know how many calories things have, that aren't in a jar or a packet?
I'm really interested in knowing how to get over the plateau cause that really screws me up

i've been stumbling the last few weeks, not going to the gym as much as i should so i'm staying at the same weight, even if i eat healthy, im really getn annoyed at myself

Tons of websites have great calorie counters where you can search for foods that aren't in packets or jars. You just add your foods that you've eaten for the day and the website will add them all up for you. My favorite is
