Yes, imho you can drop 100 lbs in a year. Quitting smoking might cause you to want to eat more, so think about satiating foods. I am doing a Paleo diet, very satiating, losing weight fast and without hunger. Check out this blog of a 56 year old obese type II diabetic man who dropped 73 lbs doing Paleo,

rapidly reversing his diabetes through a change in eating. With your larger frame and initial weight, I suspect you would lose more faster initially, so I think 100lbs loss in a year would be expected. (I am down 13 lbs in 19 days on Paleo, no hunger. I made some posts with info links on that in this thread which you might find interesting or useful, or not

IMHO boost your protein intake (meat, fish, eggs, seafood), minimize sugars, junk food, high glycemic load carbs (potatoes, chips, etc), eliminate processed foods and desserts (eat fruit, berries instead), drink lots of water, move your body if even by walking a bit. Keep a food journal, drop your daily calories so you are in a negative 1000 caloric balance or so.
).
Go for it, your life is at stake. Create a new you! This is the year!
