Welcome to the forum.

What are these questions?

Best wishes for your future success,

Glad to be here

and for the questions

1. what are the disadvantages to running at 6:00 am? the reason i ask this is because my little brother is still going to school and he wan me to run with him but this is the only time that he is able to run with me because when he gets off school i start work.

2. would it be better to run at 1am? this is when i get off work.

3. and lastly. If i am doing a work out and for example i am doing 3 sets of ten push ups should i increase the set to 4 and still do 10 or should i increase the 10 to somthing like 15-20 and still to 3 sets?

thanks ahead of time.

In my opinion and from the many articles I have read about what the best time of day is to exercise, I have heard the best time is in the morning, after you get up because you are burning calories for the rest of the day. 1am (at the end of your day) as opposed to 6am (at the beginning?), then choose 6am. But, I think people choose whatever fits them best anyway.

The 3rd question: I have heard that if you increase your sets then decrease your reps. So we can wait for an expert to comment on that question for you.

Welcome!!!

Actually, if you're doing heavy weight work, the morning is the worst time to be working out. Your discs aren't as able to handle the load in the morning as they are later on in the day.

Cardio works a bit better for a morning workout.

What about my old-ass discs in the morning? I get up sometimes like 5AM, and rock out, Front Squats and Dead Lifts......in the same workout........

My aging 47 year old bones......ROCK OUT!......

SUP!........>:mrright:

Best wishes,

I say that because the discs in our back need about two hours to "settle" after getting up in the morning.

A lot of heavy lifters who have been at it for a long time have multiple disc issues and working out in the morning only serves to aggravate the condition. Every disc in my lumbar spine (L1-L5) has been herniated at some point in time. Only a couple of the herniations impinged nerves. I've been lucky. So far I've had spontaneous regressions of the herniations. But I'm also very prone to spontaneous herniations now. Needless to say, my spine has been MRI'd to death and is only of interest to neurosurgeons :D

Lots of people have protruding herniations in their lumbar spine, but they don't know it because no nerves are being impinged. Chances are, if an individual continues to do heavy workouts within 2 hours upon rising, if they already have a protrusion, the disc(s) may bulge enough to impinge a nerve (disc rupture/extrusion) and then that person ends up in agony. Sequestration of the disc nucleus can ensue where they ultimately lose control of their bowels and bladder. That is Cauda Equina Syndrome, and considered to be a medical emergency (which means get your ass to the emergency NOW).

Therefore, I would never lift anything heavy in the morning. It's too much load on the lumbar spine (the lumbar disc compression force is very high in DLs and squats). So squats and DLs are out until later in the day.

I'm not saying you can't do it. I'm just saying that no neurosurgeon would ever recommend that any individual put that kind of load on their spine in the morning if they didn't have to.

Don't ask me to defend it because, believe me, neither of us has that kind of time right now, but it is my belief that 11:00 and 14:00 are the best times of day to begin your strength training, relative to an 8:00 wakeup (8:00-9:30 being the absolute worst). Fluid pooling, nutrient timing, alertness, blah blah blah.

Just because Chillen can rock it hard in the morning without apparent consequence doesn't make it a good idea for everyone.

Also, re: the running, yeah, that's fine, as long as the intensity's not too high, and you actually know how to run, and don't exceed your recovery ability. Some people (including myself) believe fasted morning cardio to be the very best kind.

Well, my fellow brotha and Sista: I wasn't saying as soon as you get up, you start busten out squats and deads! :) Shoot....I want to keep the Rock-On poopoo in my body, not pants........:). I am in no way ready to be busten out deads and squats after just getting up.......geesh.......>:):):).......

I wait at least a couple of hours before I go and train. I eat and drink plenty of water, within those 2 hours, and then go train. In the 5A example, I would have gotten up at 3A to work out at 5A (approximately), and then get to work by 7:30A (if I was working day time that particular day). I prepare my body first, of course.

I needed to clarify.......

I still contend there is no problems in workout in the AM.

Just do it.....! :)

Best regards,

Chillen

Ah, okay. So Chillen wasn't saying he trains immediately upon waking, just that the absolute time of day is pretty much irrelevant (true - time is an illusion, hope this helps!), but that you should wait a couple hours after waking to perform heavy strength training (also true).

Please to ignore part re: Chillen in previous post. ;)
