hello

whats up everybody my name is Mark
i'm 20 years old currently trying to get ready to join the military,
i've been running consistently for about 3 months and have just recently started running every single day and rarely take a break day.
i haven't really been focusing on strength training as much as i should but my conditioning is on point and i've never felt this healthy before.
i'm currently not taking any supplements besides 3000mg of l-arginine daily, as this has appeared to help significantly in every aspect of my routine.
but im hoping to learn more about what is going on physically any help would b appreciated. thank u

Hey Mark. Congrats on making the huge decision on serving our country! Hats off to you. What branch are you going in? I went into the Army when I was 20. I was fat and lazy and really weak. So you have a pretty good head start.
If you are going Army – running is a great thing for you. Unless they have changed it – they run two miles on the PT test. My best time was 11:35. I was smoking the rest of my brigade there. Pushups were my weakness. You have two minutes to do as many consecutive as you can – I would shoot for 65-70 and you will be good to go. I never beat 65. Sit-ups – my strong point – was never an issue for me. I think you only need 80 to max the test – but I always strived to beat the century mark. Again you get 2 minutes, and my top score was 110.
My recommendation – if you want to build your pushups – do pyramids. 1,2,3,….10 and then back down. Running, just keep running – you will be fine. Situps – work three times a week trying to do three sets of 35. And then add five to those every week.
Thanks again for choosing to serve our country. I hope I was able to help!

im thinking army as well. 2 miles would be easy for me if its at a moderate pace idk if i could sprint 2 miles though haha.
thx ill try the pyramid method out
yeah i can do alot of situps too. in fact i try to work my abs twice every day.
but as far as running every day, in addition to working out hard every other day, do you think im overdoing it at all?

If you are running at more than a comfortable pace then maybe so. If you are running at a relaxed pace but trying to push maybe 6-7 minutes a mile - I think you are ok. Running is a lot of people's weakness in the army. Just be ready to run long runs and yelling out cadience while doing it ;)

Keep me posted on your progress. You are going to be fine. Also - ENJOY BOOT CAMP - most try to make you think that it sucks, but it was one of the best times for me thinking back. Yes you get yelled at a lot, but where are you able to learn how to deploy claymores, and shoot off M4's, M16's, and 50 cals. Throwing grenades is always fun and firing off the AT4's was a blast. Just learn and experience it all. When you are out of the army, the only place you can do it is Modern Warfare 2 ;)

Hell yeah dude, that doesn't sound bad at all. Haha
And thanks for informing me of this because fortunately running is my strong point right now, i'll be sure to keep it that way.

Eh I've been trying to work out before meals, but how long should i wait before working out again after I eat for "optimal performance" per se?

Just like swimming - your body has to digest it all first - otherwise it is just sitting there moving around in your digestive system. I would at least wait a good 30-45 minutes before the next workout.
