Hello and Happy New Year! :)

I am new to the group and look forward to add value to the group discussions. I am a Personal Wellness Coach. My personal weight loss experiences have been positive.
It has been over 15 months since I lost 30 lbs and have maintained my goal weight of 210 pounds. I do not believe in most dieting methods because it seems when I used to reach my goal weight, the weight went back on plus more. I was 260 lbs and was in awesome shape during my days of play football on the NCAA Division III level. After a shoulder and back injury, I took off most of the muscle and added plenty of fat. My eating habits changed after I started usng supplements to lose the weight. I was able to take off the weight and improve several other health conditions I had including acid relux, Adult ADD, high cholesterol and always being tired.
My personal plan included:
* I cut out most fried foods, junk foods, snacks and fast foods. The key to eating is making your meal as colorful as possible. Enjoy a variety of fruits and veggies. When at the grocery store, my wife and I are always looking at labels. Purchasing skim instead of 1% milk, low fat sour cream, very lean meats, whole grains.

* No more soda, we cut out soda completely. This was key because of all that excess sugar. I started to drink more water and green tea. I also added an Aloe Concentrate beverage to my green tea which helped rid my system of acid reflux.

* Exercise. I don't go to the extreme with limited time. I do like to get in my push ups (about 100 a day). My favorite video of all time is 7 minute abs, truely a great video if you take it serious. For anyone, just a walk around the block everyday. Go to the mall and walk a bit extra, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park your car further away to get the extra walk.

*Supplements - this was my key to success. I drink a soy protein meal replacement drink every day. This gives my body the proper nutrition. I also add a multi-vitamin, omega 3 and a few extras. This gave me an edge and still helps me today to maintain my weight.

* Support system: this is awesome for motivation. Now that we are in the New Year its everyone's resolution, lose weight. The best way to stay on track is to find a coach or belong to a support system.
I now help others lose weight by hosting a Weight Loss Challenge, its a 10 week support group that my wife and I run in our community. It is non-profit, so the money we collect gets paid out to the winners as a motivational tool. Its awesome, everyweek we review a different nutritional and proper exercise topic, we have weigh-ins and prizes and every single person in our challenges have lost weight. In 2010, we have two challenges scheduled. Our regular challenge is at our local fitness club and our township's public library has asked us to host a challenge with them.

I look forward to hearing from everyone in the group!

To your health,
Tommy D.
