Hi!
I grew up as an athletic fat-kid, if that makes any sense to anyone. I was never skinny, but always played sports. Damn genetics...
I joined the army when I was 18, and lost almost 40 lbs in basic training and airborne school. It was the first time in my life that I had ever had a 32 inch waist, and I loved it.
After getting stationed to my unit, I started to gain the weight back slowly, though I was running 3-6 miles per day and doing very intense training besides just morning PT... I was involved in Ninjutsu and Boxing, not to mention field exercises going on all of the time (I was infantry). So I never got past 220 lbs, around 15% bodyfat, which was very healthy. I was running 2 miles in 12 minutes flat, maxing my pushups and getting 80-90% on situps. I was always a big eater though, and I ate almost everything in sight.
After leaving active duty, I started getting into heavy lifting, and I gained about 25 lbs within 6 months of leaving active duty. A lot was muscle, but I packed on some fat as well.
ANYWAYS...
I have been on and off the gym for the past 3 years, and I have gained what I consider a disgusting amount of weight through a very rich lifestyle (dining out at fine dining restaurants a LOT, cooking a lot of classic cuisine heavy on cream and butter and red meat), and sampling perhaps a few too many high-calorie IPAs and other craft brews, which I tend to have a passion for. Prolly WAAAY too much wine as well...
I now weigh 309 lbs.
I have come to the realization that my lifestyle is going to lead me into an early grave, and I really just hate to even look at myself in the mirror anymore. I am a naturally confident, social person; my body does not match my personality anymore and I can't stand it!!!!
So I have decided to get back on the horse, and have taken up cooking in healthy ways, and I have started to slowly get back into training. I am looking to the internet because I need support, and would like to give support to people who are like me; average people who need to take control of their bodies once more.
SO!
If you like to cook, I have been doing it for 24 years. I love to share recipes, and I have created a lot of fantastic low-calorie, low-fat, carb-conscious dishes that have begun to work for me. I also know quite a bit about weight training and such, so if you are a meathead, shoot me a line!
LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING EVERYONE!
GO SPARTANS!
