Hi everyone,

I have struggled with being overweight most of my life. I was a porky kid and when I was a high school senior I topped out weighing 270 LBS.

Throughout the years I have gained weight back and it has really creeped up on me. I have had my loss of 10 lbs here and there but have always been around 290 the last 5 years or so.

Fast forward to me turning 30 this year. I weighed 310 on 05/16. That is just plain to much. I have high bloodpressure and high cholestrol that runs in my family. My weight causes anxiety about my health.

The funny thing is I dont consider myself as a person "out of shape"...especially for my size. I have always been active in athletics and people tell me I dont look as heavy as I am. I exercise pretty regularly and I can run a 10 minute mile do 50 pushups, benchpress 400 LBS... yadda yadda yadda... that is all fine and dandy but the numbers dont lie. 310 LBS at 6'1 is overweight... and I am now uncomfortable, feel unhealthy and want to change...

My wife and I had our first child a few days ago. I would like to be around to watch him grow up...

So thats about it. I know their is no special formula or magic pill to lose weight. It is just an issue of caloric intake vs calories spent. My main pitfalls to being healthy have been stress/ over eating and beer drinking on the weekends. The alcohol is gone since I have a whole new responsibility as being a father and the stress eating is something I just have to manage better. I eat when I am bored, excited...etc. I need to reeavluate food and get back to a healthy relationship with it.

I have made a decision to get healthier and hope to find some freinds here to share with... My goal right now is to get to 270, from 310... 40 LBS. That would be lower than I have been in 7 years... I dont have a time-line but I am going to do it as fast, but safe and healthy as possible...

Thanks,

Big Guy :)

Hey bigguy64,

Welcome to the forum! I'm a relative newbie here too. As active as you are now, getting to your goal should be merely a matter of minding your calorie intake. Choosing healthier options during this time could help set up a permanent eating pattern for after your weight loss time as well. Good luck, and I look forward to seeing some updates from you along the way!

Hey bigguy!

Welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy your stay! :)

It looks as if you're already on the best way, you've figured out what your problems are and what you can do about it, that's already one of the biggest hurdles taken!

I'm sure you can do it with no problems, especially with the incentive of a new arrival in the family...congratulations on that by the way! :)

If you're looking for friends, support, chat and laughs you're certainly in the right place on this board, there are piles of friendly people (okay, some are downright crazy, but harmless ;) ) around here!

Good luck on your weight loss journey! :)
