Hello, I'm a 143 lb 5"3' female. I've struggled for a long time now to get my weight back down to roughly 115-120, however my means are rather limited by a low income (healthy food costs an arm and a leg generally) and hip trouble.

More than anything, I wouldn't mind making some new friends who are more supportive of my goal, since everyone around here is convinced that I'm "skinny and cute"... even though I can't fit into my old clothing and the added weight only hurts my hip more.

I wouldn't mind aiming for maybe 20-25 lbs off by January 2010, possibly a little more. It's just hard to stay motivated when everyone keeps telling you not to bother. :willy_nilly:

Welcome to the forum.

It may be worth you trying the clubs section. I am sure when I was on the way down there was a 140s club and a 130s club full of people of that weight - many of which were eager to lose a bit of weight and get into the next section down.

I think that the key thing is to look for friends which you have this in common. I have been on both sides of this - and know how easy it is to think "I wish that I only had that kind of weight to lose - maybe she has unreal expectations - isnt that a healthy BMI". I also know how strongly you can feel that you are not where you ought to be as you attain a healthy BMI.

I am 5ft3tall too so know that your BMI will be very slightly overweight at that weight - maybe only by about 2 pounds. Some of us are right at the upper end of the range and others in the middle or near the bottom.

Some of it can depend on things like age. I am told that once they are over a "certain age" very few people are able to return to the weight that they were as teenagers / early twenties.

Good luck with your project.
